ITALY APPROVED $762 M IN ARMS SALES TO PAKISTAN IN 2018

honestly we should ignore any pak military news related with west.
Not nearly as big to recognized as the C-130 (Hercules), but the C-27J Spartan could be a good replacement down the road.

By the way, those figures in 2018 are staggering to say the least. Its no wonder Leonardo decided to open up a Regional Office in Islamabad.

C-27J is a perfect solution for special ops so only few in number makes sense.

.
I really wish PAC and Leonardo work on long term partnership in AESA radar and weapons integration.
such collaboration will be a huge boost not only for Thunders but also for Project Azm. It is also interesting that no details were revealed, there might a a similar partnership going on both parties want to under wrap for now at least.

Interestingly, in July 2019, Leonardo announced that it sold six M-346FAs to an undisclosed “major international customer.” The M-346FA happens to meet the PAF’s two main requirements (i.e., a radar and data-link system). A small batch order of M-346FA could fit in the sales figures announced for 2018.
Well here is what we know about the M-346FA (Fighter Attack) Variant...

Multi-role variant capable of air-to-air and air-to-surface combat with a 2 tonne payload spread over 7 hard points, advanced Grifo-346 radar, countermeasures and stealth features including engine intake grids and radar-absorbing coatings on the canopy and wing leading edge. It is being marketed as a light attack aircraft also suitable for aggressor training purposes.

Engines: Honeywell F124 Turbofan (which means US has a say).

A key feature of the M-346 is the Embedded Tactical Training System (ETTS). The ETTS is capable of emulating various equipment, such as radar, targeting pods, weapons, and Electronic Warfare systems; additionally, the ETTS can interface with various munitions and other equipment actually being carried on board.

Failed product compared to c-235 look for story on failed acquisition by USAF for Afghan.

concur: C-235 is the way to go. proven and very versatile and they are continuing to evolve further. Compare adoption rate of C235 - it says it for itself.

Such a shame we can't make these in our country . economy is bad and still they are importing

Never heard it coming to Pakistan. Low chance

As ACM Retd. Sohail Aman is quoted that we needed a lift with nice Radar & Data Link capabilities, where M-346 may fit the bill but speaking of such purchase; I don't see it happening soon.
The PAF considered LIFT on multiple occasions, but during ACM Sohail Aman's time, the PAF decided to drop the idea of a LIFT and rely on the JF-17B for LIFT + OCU instead.

However, towards the end of ACM Aman's time, and the start of ACM Mujahid Anwar Khan's time, the PAF again decided it wanted a LIFT. During IDEAS 2018, PAC and PAF officials were clearly saying they wanted a LIFT, but it needed an after burning engine.

In May 2019, the PAF revised the idea (via a Jane's interview with ACM Mujahid Anwar Khan) to saying the engine didn't need after burning, but the aircraft must have a fully capable radar and data link system.

The main options were the M-346, L-15, and T-50. It's possible, however unlikely, that the Italian gov't agreed to release a credit line for the M-346, in which case such a purchase is doable. But in any case, LIFT is on the cards for the time being (unless the PAF again decides to change course).

I personally think Pakistan should keep adopting Western tech even in small number. It gives huge edge on training purposes.
