What's new

It looks like the deal is finally done!!!!!!!

.
Don't worry rafale is primarily meant for China ...

and China will help you guys with their front line fighters ...

In nut shell - there will be status quo ...which is what we want !

It's Menage a trois !

sort of Love- Hate triangle ...

Means you spend too much time on Indian Defence Section of PDF !

Would hate rain on anyone's parade, but the first squadron of Rafale will take 36-48 months to deliver after the signing of contract....and as much time along for pilot training and hours accumulation, with the rest delivered over a 5-6 years period.....meaning, depending everything goes well with HAL (which it won't, there will hiccups, proof is in the pudding).....India will have a Rafale fleet by 2024...by that time it would be too little too late for China threat.

Why don't we go for JF17 or JF10 ? It is by all means one of the most potent aircraft in the history of PDF.

Exports are banned to India for the following reason(s)
1-LCA fanboys will have a heart attack
2-Indian superpower status will rest in Pakistan and China's hand.

Something is better than nothing .
We are not in race with China ...we just need the stuff to tide over ...

With the tremendous and yet widening gap between India and China any thought of matching China is too hazardous ...at the moment
We just need the numbers good enough to give a descent fight in an unlikely event of eventuality ....
Do you think we will be better off without Rafale ?

Actually yes, because Rafale by the time it arrives, will hardly matter for the China front......and India itself would be into 5th Gen by 2020s.......Rafale would have been good if it was in full service today, not 7-8 years from now on.( and that is assuming that everything goes very smoothly, which isn't the case.....LCA, Scorpene, IN Aircraft carrier, Arjun etc)

It says in the tender documents...the time frame...go and read it up please.

I think you should go read that first your self :mad:

But will you agree that Rafale will serve some purpose on pakistan front ...

at the present ...with Migs falling out of skies like birds ..and IAF squadron strength at all time low with LCA still in the making ...we have no choice ...

If we speak of Ideal situation then we can have lot of scenarios ...

But unfortunately India is an imperfect country and lives in an imperfect world ...

We need to bid our time .

You get attacked when you are weak ...or weakest .

To prevent war you need to stay strong ...
Rafale is the only optimal short term solution ...although an imperfect one !

Does it really matter ?

You see we have not had deal yet ... ( although we will ...in near future )
From the moment deal is signed till we actually have fully functional battle ready Rafale squadrons will take a long time ...there is no point in denying that .

One who gets everything for free are the one who should die of happiness because they don't have to pay a single penny. If Pakistan can paint it for china then they can paint it for us.After all money talks.

Some weird calculation is going on here boss...are you saying IAF will have 5th Gen fighters by 2020 however Rafael by 2024?? Sir, ji thoda to khyaal karo...

I don't think so....

Even in 2025 the Rafale F3++ will give the Chinese "5th gen" fighters some serious heat. The Frenh aren't planning for a manned 5th gen fighter themselves so are going to be continuously upgrading the Rafale to keep it relevent and cutting edge. The Rafale has some of the finest (if not the finest) electronics on board it in service today (SPECTRA et al) and it is even claimed to have given the F-22 more than a run for its money in simulated dogfights.

Not really, no comparison b/w Rafale and F-22 or a true 5th gen stealth for that matter. The stealth will see Rafale way beyond what Rafale can see and track even with it's FSO and F3++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Chinese Flankers are more than enough capable to deal with Rafale or anything.

But i think you want to go to the 'stupid' territory, so i'd leave you alone there.

Same flankers which some of the PDF experts here claim that there supadupa jf-17 will give Indian flankers run for its money :D:D:D how dubious they are

Oops!!! You one of them:D:D

The Rafale incorporates many next generation/5th gen features stealth is not the be all and end all, like I have said the Rafale will give the F-22 a run for its money forget about the F-35, Flankers or Chinese "5th gen" J-XX fighters that have a long way to go to prove they are not just impressive looking shells.

Actually any of the planes except F-22 will give each other a run for their money.

Yea sure...because India bought it.

To be honest I respect the post counts you are having under your belt but you are simple comparing an aircraft which has never been tested against an aircraft which at least has proved itself in some fronts. You are not confident enough to use JF17 against Taliban forget about any wars whereas Rafael was a part of so many joint exercise where in it has proved his capability. If something is good there is no shame in accepting it. You are just trying to defend something which has never shown its potential.
