THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Isro is gearing up for its two prestigious launches including Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV C22) on July 1 at 11.41pm and Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV-D5) on August 6 from its two launch pads at Satish Dawan Space Centre in Sriharikota.*Now leading scientists and top officials from Isro's Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC) and Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre (LPSC) in Kerala are at Sriharikota all set for the specific PSLV C-22 mission to launch the first of the initial constellation of seven satellites of Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System (IRNSS-1A) on Monday. Earlier, a glitch in one of the electro-hydraulic control actuators in the second stage of PSLV-C22 had forced ISRO to postpone the launch of IRNSS-1A on June 12 by a fortnight.*"We have overcome the obstacle for launch of PSLV-C22, now the vehicle is assembled and global checks have been completed. The rehearsal is on to launch the 1380 kg IRNSS-1A satellite, the first navigational satellite on July 1. By launching seven satellites in the constellation of IRNSS, India can reduce its dependency on other countries such as the US and Russia for GPS based services," Isro official Deviprasad Karnik told TOI on Friday.*"Final review of PSLV-C22 to launch the navigational satellite IRNSS-1A was completed on Thursday and it is all set for launch on July 1 at 11.41 pm," VSSC director S Ramakrishnan told TOI.*LPSC director MC Dathan told TOI on Friday that, "the launch authorisation board meeting and final mission rehearsal was completed on Thursday and propellant filling operation is on. Filling propellants will be completed and by July 1 afternoon it will be ready. This XL version of PSLV is slightly longer than the original vehicle with six extended solid strapons."*Officials of the Isro establishments are equally anxious about the GSLV D-5 mission to launch the communication satellite GSAT -14 from the second launch pad at Sriharikota where the vehicle integration is in progress.*"The mission readiness meet for GSLV-D5 launch was also held on Thursday. We are very confident after the repeat successful High Altitude Tests in the last three months. Yet we are anxious about the indigenous cryogenic stage which was moved from LPSC Mahendragiri on May 13, it is being integrated with the vehicle at Sriharikota and further checks will be completed within 45 days. It will be ready by July end and tentatively the launch is set for August 6," Dathan said.*« PreviousNext »
