ISRO CHIEF: GAGAN IS SUPERIOR TO ALL AVAILABLE GPS

The civil aviation ministry is in talks with aircraft manufacturers like Boeing and Airbus to implement the new GAGAN GPS-aided navigation system.

“All new aircraft might come with the GAGAN navigation system, but before that the instrument needs to be standardised… the work is going on,” said officials.

Each aircraft will cost at least a couple of crores extra with the new navigation system implemented in it.

However, officials said that mandating implementation of GAGAN in the existing planes owned and operated by carriers might not happen, as it would require grounding of aircraft for quite a long period of time. It would also require supplimental type certificate (which is required if any new instrument is introduced to an already running aircraft), which would further delay the process of implementation in existing aircraft.

The Airport Authority of India (AAI) has agreed to provide a 5% subsidy on the receivers. It is also in talks with all airline companies to install the new navigation system. As a part of a trial run, AAI has implemented GAGAN in 50 airports. V Somasundaram, member, airport navigation and surveillance at AAI said, that GAGAN will be implemented across all airports in a phased manner.

Officials said that the GPS-aided navigation system is far more efficient than the current one. While radar based navigation system allows manning of two planes in the airspace at the same time, GAGAN allows the air traffic control (ATC) to operate 50 planes in the same time frame. It also improves efficiency and increases fuel savings — as planes will have to circle less over the airports — reduces the workload of flight crew and ATC, and allows vertical guidance at runaways.

You are talking as if chinese space program can keep all deadline targets. Then why they can't succeed in mars probe with the help of russians, means they also lost meeting deadline target of sending probe to mars ! In space program no organisation can keep 100% deadlines. There will be failures and so meeting deallines are hefty tasks for any space agencies.Yes it's a proud moment of india, when ISRO is the only organisation in the world can send probe to mars successfully in first attempt.

I am not here to argue with you about ISRO's record. It is there for everyone to see. By the way, where is the GSLV-3, wasn't it supposed to launch on 2008-2009?

Just don't understand why Indians have to be bigmouth all the time! like:

Mumbai surpass Shanghai by 2009 by former Prime Minister
India to be Superpower by 2012 by Indian President
ISRO will surpass NASA in 10 years
"Mother of All Dears" on MMRCA program for the past 13 years
............................

Don't you get tired of slapping your own face all the time?
Don't you get tired of acting like a 50 center bot and doing constant slavery under the CCP:rofl:.Man it really sucks to be a Chinese nowadays:(

Run out of argument and then run away yesterday, now just resort to personal attack? :cheesy:

It would be nice to see ISRO just dose what it announced it would do. GSLV-3 is about 7 years late now, and still counting. What about your manned space flight that was supposed to take place in 2015?

India becomes the fifth state after the US, Japan, Russia, and Europe to have its own space observatory. This is also the first time an Indian rocket is launching an American satellite.

Buddy why can't your country ever launched a space telescope, why why???????????

We know you are here for a troll..

India has its own space mission objectives and also chinese have different objectives. So don't troll that why ISRO don't do like this and like that....

Congratulations! These are indeed achievements. You can claim more than that for things India did ahead of China and be proud of it. My original post was about the broken promises, not about who is ahead of whom. Moon walk by 2020, remember that?

Don't worry india will take care moon walk at appropriate time

Which country doesn't go through broken promises? India is no different.

By the way, Chinese has a lunar-based telescope launched on 2013 with Chang'e-3 mission, just in case you don't know.

ya, we all know that. In my company, we call these people big mouth.

Which country doesn't go through broken promises? India is no different.

Sure, difference is between 1% and 99%.

Nobody worries, just did not like big mouthing. That is all.

It's funny that u convert a lunar land rover to a telescope who's purpose to view distant planet.only Japan had a telescope that too retired few months back.only India is having one in Asia at the moment. Yah big mouthing

@Dungeness

By the way isro does not want Chinese certificate for its space mission. We accomplished our mission like mars, telescope etc and so big mouth not required at the moment.

By your definition, USA Hubble is not qualified to be a space telescope, because "its purpose to view distant planet". I don't know what is the telescope then. By the way, the Lunar-based telescope we are talking about is not on the Moon Rover, it is on the Moon Lander.

Nobody wants to certify ISRO's space program. It has accomplished a lot, but this is not my point. My point has been India in general is good at announcing plans, but no known for executing the plans and delivering the results. From your space programs such as GSLV-3, manned space flight, moon landing, to your jet engines, LCA, Arjun, MMRCA, to the plan to be superpower in 2012, almost none has escape this fate. Hence big mouth comments.
