Dear friends should India go for Isreali's Merkava 4 tanks rather than Russian T-90 tanks which has failed desert test and which was made in Russia to run in snow not sand????? Isreali tanks r better in design and specs and work well in high temp......... pls comment

Israeli tanks are handy to terrorize and destroy Palestinians. I doubt they will perform excellent in real combat and against real opponents. Besides that... The Merkava is pretty good in urban combat, I hope you guys understand that your big battles are in an huge sandy environment. You do not need the kind of protection the Merkava provides. You need speed, agility, BMS, firepower... You need something Like El Khaled. You surely would not need heavy things... Like Arjun.

Current Al-khalid's performance is way lower than Arjun's. Waiting for new version of Al-khalid.

Well if diversification is required then Indian Armour can opt leopard 2 , it has operational experience as well as it is operated by numerous countries,

And the tank itself did not fail from where you have received this news , there was some technical issues with the fire control and thermal imaging with the high desert temperature, T-90s are regularly taking part in exercises. And Indian army is in the process to rectify the issues with installation of A.C .

Neither.

There are 3 MBT's in the World.

1. Leopard 2A6 - a compromise between speed, firepower and armour, German-built, it's efficiency is assured.

2. Challenger 2 - Slow. But it will survive all hits and kill anything on the battlefield.

3. M1 Abrams - Fast, heavily armoured and a killer; 4 trucks per tank to supply. A War-winner if you can keep it fed.

Which one do you think India based it's Tank design on???

If this is a question about the arjun then

The Arjun has been designed with Western design practices in mind, especially reflected in its crew protection features. With a crew of four, it incorporates heavy composite armour and significant crew protection measures, including ammunition separated from the crew, and blow off panels on the turret bustle, and an integrated fire detection and suppression system. It also incorporates nuclear, biological and chemical protection.[42] Further, Explosive Reactive Armour (ERA) panels can be added, though the current Kanchan armour is deemed sufficient for the Arjuns tank-killer role.

The turret has been designed with the ergonomics of Indian Army troops in mind. The typical crew consists of a gunner, commander, loader and driver. It is protected by a laser warning system and smoke launchers for counter measures. To further enhance combat survivability, the tank has an auto-fire detection and suppression system. Ammunition is also stored in watertight containers to reduce the risk of fire.[40]

The turret and glacis are heavily armoured and use "Kanchan" ("gold") modular composite armour. The Kanchan Armor got its name from Kanchan Bagh, Hyderabad, where the Defence Metallurgical Research Laboratory (DMRL) is located.[43] The armour is made by sandwiching composite panels between Rolled Homogenous Armor (RHA) to defeat APFDS or HEAT rounds. During the trials in 2000 ,the Kanchan was able to withstand a hit from a T-72 at point blank range, and was able to defeat all available HESH and FSAPDS rounds, which included the Israeli FSAPDS rounds.[43] A new honeycomb design non-explosive and non-energetic reactive armour (NERA) armour is reportedly being tested on the Arjun.[44]
