Israeli media say unknown thieves have stolen several US-made engines for Israeli F-16 warplanes from an airbase in the central occupied territories.

The media reported on Thursday that preliminary findings from police investigation indicated that either military or civilian personnel within the airbase might have assisted the thieves.

The Israeli military suspected that the engines might have been stolen to be sold as scrap metal, the media said. However, it is still unclear when the thefts took place and no suspects have been arrested so far.

Israeli sources said that official reports on the investigation into the matter would be sent to the military prosecutor. The sources have refused to further comment on the issue.​

In a similar incident last year, the Israeli military police conducted an investigation after parts for F-15 and F-16 warplanes belonging to an airbase near Tel Aviv were found when police searched a warehouse used by scrap metal merchants.

well if its a fighter the it would e hilarious to loose it in such manner . but if these are some spare parts that are held in storage then the story would be quiet possible. but more importantly i like to see the original story for the news. after all press TV is not supposed to have any representative in occupied Palestine.

and an advice to the thieves , you get more money by selling the engine as a whole or as spare parts rather than scrap of metals
