Israeli Radar for India’s LCA?

India is seeking to buy an EL/M-2052 active electronically scanned array radar from Israel’s Elta for its Light Combat Aircraft (LCA), after efforts to develop a radar failed, Indian Defence Research and De*velopment Organisation (DRDO) sources said. The aircraft’s developer, the Bangalore-based Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA), also is seeking a foreign firm to advise it about the flight tests. ADA is offering a two-part contract for 18 months of work leading up to initial operational clearance, and 24 months of work leading to final operational clearance.LCA prototypes have already flown about 600 test flights, one ADA official said. The single-seat, single-engine, supersonic LCA will soon begin weapons integration work, and the aim is to achieve initial operational clearance with the EL/M-2052 radar aboard.A DRDO team flew to Israel within the past two weeks, hoping to secure the radar in time to have it aboard the under-development LCA by next year, Indian Defence Ministry sources said.The radar will allow the LCA to detect, lock onto and pass information about 64 targets to the plane’s mission computer.Since 1991, India has spent more than $50 million to develop a Multi Mode Radar, which was originally to have been designed by Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. (HAL) and the DRDO for service beginning in 1998.The LCA program was launched in 1983. ADA is leading the development with help from HAL.

LCA Is The One project which has faced many criticisms , Its very disappointing That The LCA is taking such a long time... But When The LCA Mark II version is released, The Lets see If It was worth waiting for... There is not much Information we are getting about how far has been the LCA a successes Untill now.. But As LCA Mark 1 Version is approved It should be released By This year end or 2010. But the airforce has Only orderd 200 of them and the navy has only 20 of them... But According to what they have to say is.... They would be much interested in LCA mark II ... And Its A glad news to hear that IAF is Fully satisfied with the plan Of LCA mark II version as It meets there needs, and standards....

We should hope that we see LCA's Flying by 2015 or so... India Is Sure a developing nation...

BANGALORE: The Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) programme has achieved another significant breakthrough as its final prototype vehicle PV-5 will soon take to the skies. The PV-5, one of the five prototype vehicles developed by the Aeronautical Development Agency is ready with the Engine Ground Run currently being carried on.


Defence Research and Development Organisation sources told Express that the Engine Ground Run for the PV-5, a two-seat trainer prototype is currently being carried out, before it can be certified to fly.

“The Engine Ground Run precedes the low-speed taxi trial and the high speed taxi-trials, following which the first flight of the aircraft will take place,” said sources. “Once the weather improves the taxi trial will be carried and so will the first flight of the PV-5,” sources added.

Unlike the other four prototypes (PV-1, PV-2,PV-3,PV-4) and the two technology demonstrator (TD-1 and TD-2) aircraft, the PV-5 apart from being a two-seat trainer version of the LCA will be identical to the fighter.

It will be fully combat capable and could be used in that role.

The LCA has completed 1,141 Test Flights successfully as on June 25.

ADA, the technology development agency for the indigenous LCA programme, hopes to get the Initial Operational Clearance before being inducted in the IAF by 2010. IAF plans to have seven LCA squadrons.

Indian defence minister AK Antony has reiterated that the indigenously designed, and produced, Tejas Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) would be delivered to the Indian Air Force by 2011. Interacting with the media during his visit to the Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd, Antony said, "The final operational clearances for the indigenously developed aircraft will be given by 2010."

Antony, who also witnessed an air display of the latest HAL productions including the Tejas LCA, the Dhruv Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) and the Saras turbo-prop, said that the Tejas and the Dhruv would be prized inductions for the air force.

He also said that development of the Kaveri engine as well as the LCA prototype would take place simultaneously.

Expressing happiness over the functioning of the ALH, the Indian chief of air staff, Air Chief Marshal FH Major said the weaponisation process of the helicopter was on.
