The Delhi Police today admitted for the first time that the terror attack on a car carrying an Israeli diplomat was conducted by a foreign country.
Indian soil has been used by a foreign country for carrying out terrorist activity against another foreign country, police said in a written reply filed before the Tis Hazari court of Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Vinod Yadav.
On March 15, Police Commissioner B K Gupta said that the attack had been carried out by persons of Iranian origin against Israeli embassy official Tal Yehoshua Koren. But he did not mention the involvement of any country in the attack.
Police also told the court that no international agency, including Mossad, had been involved in the interrogation of journalist Syed Ahmad Mohammed Kazmi, arrested in connection with the case. But police pointed out that under a United Nations convention, they cannot deny any foreign agency the chance to question Kazmi if such a request is made.
Each signatory of the convention is required to assist members of other countries in all matters relating to identification of accused, their arrest and collection of evidence. This assistance is reciprocal. So, at the time of interrogation, if any other agency requires to interrogate the accused, it cannot be denied. However, in this case, till date, no agency of any other country i.e., Mossad, has yet come to interrogate the accused, police said.
Kazmi was arrested by Delhi Police on March 7 and sent to 20 days police custody. He filed a complaint through his counsel, alleging that he was being interrogated by officials other than those of Delhi Police, namely officials of Mossad.
