Israel Passes Controversial Jewish Nation-state Bill After Stormy Debate

Apparently those were 2 million and secondly those were not Semites but fellow Europeans. The same lot that killed almost 100 million of each other during WW1 and WW2.

Those same "Semites" also cluster genetically more closer to those Europeans than anyone else in the world that is not a European. Geographically as well.

In fact the Semitic race is merely the Caucasian race. The original White/Caucasian race originated in the Arab world.

Even racist Europeans 100 years ago understood that Arabs were Caucasian. A Mediterranean branch.

Physical appearance

The Arabid race is distinguished from the West-Mediterranean race by some minor characteristic facial traits. The Arabid physical type had in earlier times a broader-formed Syrid subtype, which was found among the farmers of the Fertile Crescent.

Read this article published by the world famous Science Magazine, my conquered Gypsy, who would have no culture without those same Semites that his ancestors copied almost everything from.

When it comes to skin color, the team found a patchwork of evolution in different places, and three separate genes that produce light skin, telling a complex story for how European’s skin evolved to be much lighter during the past 8000 years. The modern humans who came out of Africa to originally settle Europe about 40,000 years are presumed to have had dark skin, which is advantageous in sunny latitudes. And the new data confirm that about 8500 years ago, early hunter-gatherers in Spain, Luxembourg, and Hungary also had darker skin: They lacked versions of two genes—SLC24A5 and SLC45A2—that lead to depigmentation and, therefore, pale skin in Europeans today.

But in the far north—where low light levels would favor pale skin—the team found a different picture in hunter-gatherers: Seven people from the 7700-year-old Motala archaeological site in southern Sweden had both light skin gene variants, SLC24A5 and SLC45A2. They also had a third gene, HERC2/OCA2, which causes blue eyes and may also contribute to light skin and blond hair. Thus ancient hunter-gatherers of the far north were already pale and blue-eyed, but those of central and southern Europe had darker skin.

Then, the first farmers from the Near East arrived in Europe; they carried both genes for light skin. As they interbred with the indigenous hunter-gatherers, one of their light-skin genes swept through Europe, so that central and southern Europeans also began to have lighter skin. The other gene variant, SLC45A2, was at low levels until about 5800 years ago when it swept up to high frequency.

A perfect law, well done Israel. I want the same law in Iran: Iran is a country for Iranians with persian as a language for communication between the people and between the state and the people and no other language should be able to replace persian in schools.

62 lawmakers vote in favor of the bill after a stormy debate ■ Arab lawmakers tossed out after they tear bill in protest, call it 'apartheid law'

The Jewish nation-state bill alienates Israel’s Arab citizens for nothing
The Knesset passed early Thursday a controversial bill that officially defines Israel as the national homeland of the Jewish people and asserts that "the realization of the right to national self-determination in Israel is unique to the Jewish people," with 62 lawmakers voting in favor of the legislation and 55 opposing it.

Two lawmakers, Benny Begin (Likud) and Orly Levy-Abekasis (independent) abstained.

The nation-stae law also includes clauses stating that a "united Jerusalem" is the capital of Israel and that Hebrew is the country's official language. Another says that "the state sees the development of Jewish settlement as a national value and will act to encourage and promote its establishment and consolidation."

It passed after a long and stormy debate that began in the afternoon, with lawmakers voting on hundreds of clauses presented by the opposition that objected to differents parts of the bill.

Immediately after the law passed, Arab lawmakers tore copies in protest, and were subsequently removed from the Knesset plenum hall. Lawmaker Ayman Odeh, chairman of the Joint List, released a statement saying that Israel "declared it does not want us here" and that it had "passed a law of Jewish supremacy and told us that we will always be second-class citiziens."

Speaking moments after the bill passed into law, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said: "This is a defining moment – long live the State of Israel."

Netanyahu further said that "122 years after Herzl made his vision known, with this law we determined the founding principle of our existence. Israel is the nation state of the Jewish people, and respects the rights of all of its citizens."

The prime minister also said that "in the Middle East, only Israel respects [rights]. This is our country, the Jewish state. In recent years there have been those who have tried to undermine that and question the principles of our existence. Today we made it into law: This is the country, the language, the anthem and flag."

As they left the Knesset plenum, Arab MKs from the Joint List party confronted Netanyahu. MK Ahmad Tibi and MK Ayeda Touma-Souliman yelled at Netanyahu: "You passed an apartheid law, a racist law."

MK Tibi lashed at Netanyahu: "Why are you afraid of the Arabic language?" The premier retorted by saying: "How dare you talk this way about the only democracy in the Middle East?"

Opposition head Isaac Herzog also spoke up at the plenum, saying that "it's a little sad to me that the last speech I make will be against this kind of backdrop. The question is whether the law will harm or benefit Israel. History will determine. I really hope that we won't find the fine balance between a Jewish and democratic state to be hurt."

The sponsor of the bill, MK Avi Dichter, said during debates that took place prior to the vote that "unlike the disinformation and fake news that were tossed around [regarding the bill], this basic law doesn't hurt the culture of minorities living in Israel, doesn't hurt their sabbaticals and holidays and certainly doesn't hurt the Arabic language, which remains a mother tongue for 1.5 million of Israel's citizens."

The draft bill the Knesset voted on is fundamentally different form the version the coalition had sought to advance in the past decade. Its main clauses were moderated following pressure within the coalition ranks and beyond.

Initially, the bill was intended to significantly limit the discretion of Supreme Court justices’ decisions, requiring them to set the state’s Jewish character above its democratic character in rulings where the two clashed. This clause was removed from the bill already in May.

The most controversial clause, which appeared to pave the way for the creation of communities segregated by nationality or religion, was removed from the legislation earlier this week.

The nation-state law establishes as a basic law, or quasi-constitutional law, a set of values, some of which already appear in existing laws. The law stipulates that Israel is the Jewish nation’s historic homeland and that this nation has the singular right to national self-determination in it. The law anchors the flag, menorah, "Hatikva" anthem, Hebrew calendar, Independence Day and Jewish holidays as national symbols.

The law states that the “whole and united” Jerusalem is the state’s capital, which appears today in Basic Law: Jerusalem. The nation-state law further grants the status of an official language only to Hebrew.

Another controversial clause stipulates that the state will invest resources in preserving Israel’s affiliation to world Jewry, but not in Israel. This wording was demanded by the ultra-Orthodox parties to prevent the state from linking up with the Reform and Conservative communities in Israel.

Adalah Legal Center for Arab Minority Rights in Israel, released in response: "The nation-state law is a colonial law with features of apartheid, which is prohibited by international law because it contradicts the international treaty that bans apartheid crimes. It creates various avenues for segregation in land and housing and incentives based on the principle of 'advancing Jewish settlement' both in civil life and in obtaining citizenship based on the law of return and in language and in cultural rights in the name of self-definition."

As part of the protest against the law, Peace Now activists waved a black flag in the Knesset balcony during the debate, until security guards made them leave the room. Joint List chairman Ayman Odeh also raised a black flag during the debate against the legislation.

“As [the 1956 massacre] in Kafr Qassem was a blatantly illegal order, with a black flag over it, so is a black flag hoisted over this evil law,” he said.

J Street's president and founder, Jeremy Ben-Ami, harshly criticized the nation-state bill and Netanyahu's government: "It was born in sin, its only purpose is to send a message to the Arab community, the LGBT community and other minorities in Israel, that they are not and never will be equal citizens. Two months ago we celebrated the 70th anniversary of the Israeli Declaration of Independence, where it was written that the State of Israel 'will ensure complete equality of social and political rights to all its inhabitants irrespective of religion, race or gender.' Today Netanyahu's government is trying to ignore those words and the values that they represent."

On Monday, Netanyahu said the bill was “very important to guarantee the foundations of our existence, which is Israel as the nation-state of the Jewish people” – though critics say he is mainly keen to drum up support before the next Knesset election, due by November next year.

If Pakistan and other muslim countries can have Islam as state religion then why can't Christian, Buddhist, Hindu and Jewish majority states have a state religion?

If Pakistan and other muslim countries can have Islam as state religion then why can't Christian, Buddhist, Hindu and Jewish majority states have a state religion?
Because you didn't understand the meaning of such law...
"Jewish" isn't a religion alone... It's an Identity, an Origin, an Ideology, a Culture, a Religion etc... combined...
While Islam isn't... it's a Religion... Therefore proclaiming a Religion as a state one is ok... You already have them all around the world Whatever it's Pakistan with Islam Shinto with others or Christian with the US etc...

If you need an analogy to "Being Jewish", let's say, You proclaimed a Law that your Land is "Gurkha13ish" Therefore your land shall be to those who share your Origin, your Education, you Experience, your Origin, your Personality, your state of mind, your Faith, your End... and so on... Therefore only to those who share the Same "Identity" as yours...

So, How do you see it? Acceptable?

What's wrong with a country having an identity and protecting it? I mean they want to keep a balance, it's not that they don't have any single arab living there. This is just a preventive measure to prevent that their demographic/cultural/ethnic/religious balance collapses in the future.

From 1948 Israel was a secular state. They had Muslims, Christians, Druze, Ahmadiyya etc... But then all the Islamic nations ganged up against Israel and called it a Jewish state and apartheid one and fought wars.
Now they are a real Jewish state.

Food for thought :)

A real "Jewish" state where 20% of the Israeli population is Palestinian Arab and almost 2/3's of all "Israeli" Jews being Arab Jews (Jews from Arab countries).

It's an recent artificial identity created by mostly Eastern European Jews (Zionism) whose century long oppression at the hands of Europeans, is now used as an excuse to pursue such idiotic policies and similar ones that will only further radicalize, divide and negatively impact Israel.

Israel is a tiny state surrounded by Arab countries on all sides. In a group of 10 people, 2 of them will always be "Israeli" Arabs (and increasing).

No matter how many nuclear bombs they will acquire (eventually Arabs will too), this reality will never escape them.

Nor the fact that most Israeli citizens are ethnic Arabs (Jews included), that most of their cuisine, music and culture is deeply influenced or outright Arab culture.

Moreover, eventually the Palestinian-Israeli conflict will be solved and when that happens Israel will become a natural ally of Arab states, at least neighboring ones and mutually beneficial cooperation can occur.

None from the Islamic republic of Pakistan,Iran or w/e arab or muslim country has right to critisize this law.

Bullshit. Your supposed ancestral country (Iraq), despite having a smaller percentage of non-Arabs (in this case Kurds) recognizes Kurdish as an official language. Other Arab countries recognizes minority languages as official languages too.

What is the reason for denying Arabic an official status in Israel (now a "special status or whatever") when before it was an official language? If not trying to please the fundamentalistic and right-wing lot that Netanyahu needs the support of to remain a relevant figure in politics?

Please explain.

BTW Arab states never claimed to be shinning democracies like the "democratic" (more precisely apartheid) state that Israel claims and boosts to be 24/7. Although I can mention a few who rank as well as Israel on most democratic "rankings" if you want to.

If Pakistan and other muslim countries can have Islam as state religion then why can't Christian, Buddhist, Hindu and Jewish majority states have a state religion?

Do you even understand what those changes were about? It's not about which religion is the official state religion. Read this post above.

The arab/muslim population is increasing

They are trying to enshrine an apartheid system to try and stop a demographic issue where the arab population keeps increasing and the Jewish state comes under pressure

This was predicted years ago, the more and more arabs/palestinians there are the more a democratic isreal disintegrates and the more apartheid it has to become in order to enforce a jewish state upon the original inhabitants of Palestine

We must support the Palestinians and they must keep increasing their population in the face of israeli oppression

What is their Future? Since when Human societies = Rocks? We are in a perpetual movement... You can do whatever laws you wish... Humans are not meant to follow it for generation... That's Evolution... Adaptation...

Therefore... This law is only a "meaning" for some to maintain Power upon a community/Communities & Assets...Nothing more nothing less... They don't care about "Preservation" of their Identities... They didn't When they had their Glorious Kingdom back in the days... It's not like it's gonna change...

If you think it's acceptable, then so be it... I, for Myself... Understand why such Laws, among many others, are put ahead in Israel... Such tactics are as old as Human societies themselves... They are not the first to use it...neither will they be the last... The last most known Exemple was the Nazis... with their "Aryan race draft"...

Spoiler ALert..."Didn't End well..." Why you may ask? They forgot that they are dealing with Humans... and not some "Creepy Silicon Robots"...

@HannibalBarca

It is interesting that most Jewish thinkers in Europe/West and even Rabbis (from what I saw today in the news) are criticizing this law sharply and also questioning why the current Israeli government is pursuing right-wing policies and imitating the same political forces that did the same against the very same Jews (with fatal consequences) in Europe not long ago.

Also several Jews have questioned why Netanyahu met with the likes of Victor Urban in Hungary.

they do, because their issue is not the law, its the basis of the law.2 different things.
