NATO has announced that Israel will not be invited to its May 20-21 summit in Chicago, but denied that alliance member Turkey blocked Israel's participation.

Instead, NATO Secretary-General Anders Fogh Rasmussen said Friday, the reason is Israel does not participate in NATO's main military missions.

News report have claimed that Turkey blocked Israel's participation because of the raid in 2010 by Israeli troops on aid ships heading to Gaza during which eight Turks and a Turkish-American died.

NATO has a system of partnerships with dozens of nations across the globe such as the Mediterranean Dialogue, a NATO outreach program with seven friendly nations, including Israel.

Fogh Rasmussen said 13 partners will attend the summit, but only those that have taken part in such NATO military operations.

I already expected this

Very good, saved my tax money on this useless summit.

Good job, Turkey ;)

''srail NATO zirvesine davet edilmedi''

Israel wasn't invited in first place apparently, according to Rassmussen. The question whether they have not been invited because we would block them anyway or just because they're not a partner is still open though.

but why Israel wont attend the summit?

but why Israel wont attend the summit?

Its said that the Summit is about the ISAF and US troops in Afghanistan, And since Israel doesnt have any troops there its useless to join. I dont know if its true yet though.

Wait is Israel even a member of NATO?? NATO countries have relations with Israel, doesn't mean they gonna invite them for something that doesn't concern Israel.

Good point, i think the only reason the US would want them to join in is to create a "bond" of a sort with the involved countries. Otherwise no non NATO members should be involved or invited to this summit. However since NATO is relying on Pakistan for transportation of good and stuff it would only be logical to invite them.

I think the point of the US denying that it's because Turkey would veto Israels participation is politics. Because if Israel had been invited and Turkey most definitely would have vetoed it, then it probably would have resulted in a political debacle between Turkey and the US, but Turkeys image in middle east would have gone through the roof again.

So the wisest thing the US could do is to keep Israel away and don't do anything that'll escalate Turkeys image in the muslim world. I posted another thread where it was pointed out in the article about Turkey having a lot of influence due to its soft power and currently the "western" countries can't deal with that.

EDIT found the thread: http://www.defence.pk/forums/turkey...scrimination-against-israel-unacceptable.html
