Israel: 'No thanks' to Musharraf offer
By MARK WEISS

Israel has rejected the surprise offer by Pakistan's President Gen. Pervez Musharraf to help resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

An official in the Prime Minister's Office described the offer as "a little ridiculous," noting that there are no diplomatic relations between Islamabad and Jerusalem.

"We have an Arab initiative. Why would we need a Pakistani initiative?" the official asked, adding that mediation efforts would be welcomed from any state that had ties with Israel.

Sources in Jerusalem said that although Prime Minister Ehud Olmert welcomed the possibility of dialogue with Saudi Arabia, which also has no diplomatic ties with Israel, Saudi Arabia cannot be compared with Pakistan. Saudi Arabia, together with Egypt, is one of the leaders of the Arab and Muslim world, and is on a different level, as far as Israel is concerned, than Pakistan.

A more conciliatory note was sounded by Foreign Ministry spokesman Mark Regev who said Pakistan's involvement would be welcomed, but that Musharraf's effectiveness would likely be limited. In an interview with the pan-Arab Al-Arabya television station, based in Dubai, Musharraf said he would be willing to visit Israel to help bring peace to the Middle East.

In the interview aired late Friday, Musharraf said he was "enthusiastic" to solve the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and would go to Israel if his offer to mediate was accepted.

Musharraf said he could also start such talks first with the Palestinians, or "maybe in some third country... going to Israel is also a possibility."

It will be an honor if I can contribute in any way," said Musharraf. "If there was a role that I can play, and both sides accept that role, yes, indeed, I would like to play that role."

The Pakistani leader suggested that the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan would not be solved unless solutions for the Palestinian-Israeli conflict were found first, adding that these solutions would have an impact on the Middle East's stability, bringing serenity and stability to the region and beyond.

The first public contacts between Pakistan and Israel came in September 2005, after disengagement from Gaza, when then-foreign minister Silvan Shalom held talks in Istanbul with his Pakistani counterpart, Kursheed Kasuri. Shalom expressed a hope the Istanbul talks would mark the beginning of a process that would end with full diplomatic ties between the two countries.

There were street protests in Pakistan following the talks. Musharaf defended the contacts but made it clear that Pakistani recognition of Israel would only come after the establishment of a Palestinian state.•

Simply, Israel doesn't want to solve any issues knowing that it will result in a lost from their side. Secondly, they dont want a nuclear state favoring the issues of Palestine. It is something, it just cannot afford.

.
I dont think it is that reason, Israel itself has too many Nuclear powers on its side, as well as it

Israeli's basically brushed aside the pakistani offer as a joke,
The fact is Pakistani influence on the Arabs are quite low. I would call it Arab Superiority complex. Though pakistani is ahead of them in military terms.Israel Knows it. Another reason; Israel wants Pakistan to open Full Diplomatic ties with it, before letting Pakistan play hero

.
In my personal opinion, I think it is better Pakistan doesnt involve in that mess called Middle East.

. .
Israel doesn't want us to get involved more with her neighbors than we already are. She fears us.

Pakistan will not accept Israel, until the issues are resolved. Pakistan is voluantarily helping the cause of the people of Palestine. Otherwise for "personal interest" it can get out more from Israel than you can imagine.

I agree with that assesment, Thats what I am saying Unless Pakistan accepts them, Israel aint playing Ball with you.
It was a big snub, but there are some truths behind it too. Arabs see all the other muslims, as second grade. Or am I being too genrealistic

.
according to SHEIKH RASHEED, the president only said this to please some people(most probably america) and has no intention of having a dialogue with the israelis...........let alone helping them in the middle east crises

.
I think Pakistan has extended enough hands of friendship towards Israel. It has to play ball... Or else the status quo is just fine by us, which is pro-Arab and anti-Israeli.

There is a difference between a Pakistani taxi-cab driver and the government of Pakistan which represents the whole population of Pakistan.

Arabs see every one as second grade. Wheather it be blacks, whites, indians, or sri lankans.

That mentality comes majorly from the Prince or should i say Princess living in her own land.

Otherwise, arabs are nothing in a military & political sense. The core Muslims who are supposed to lead the Muslim world are doing nothing but sitting back and relax. As long as they get their daily chicken, they are happy.

All israel want diplomatic relation with Pakistan. But Israel and West should realize, problem they started in 1948 was not that simple in 2007 to resolve. West had extremely wrong analysis about the creation of Isreal, now after half century it start backlashing the west in the form of extremism in muslim world.
What will be the solution only god knows. Things will be worsen day by day and Pakistan should try to keep itself away from this fire. Try to have neutral position.

I'm not surprised by Israeli's response it was expected. Mushy has to back off in recent light of 2 years he's trying to get the nation in the "ME" crisis, doing so will hurt us much more than serve a good purpose, even Arab leaders have been saying its' an "Arab Problem" so they should solve it on their own either through dialogs or military conflict, the only time Pakistan should get involved and sacrifice it self is to protect the "Holy cities" other than that stay out, even Turkey our close ally doesn't get itself involved, those Arabs were the problem to begin with. They were the cause of all problems from the beginning, if you read how the "Ottoman" fall, it was them under British command destroying transports (even when troops were in trains), giving Intel on troop positions and other internal conflict cause by these people, it's their undoing for their parcel of land which holds no value when divided in more than 5+ states.

Plus, I rather have the status quo, Israel being hit by rockets, to keep them busy. Also, running along with these Arabs offer us no real military benefits rather we have to station troops their to protect them (Royal family in KSA protect by SSG). I rather we ditch the Arabs in the future if it benefits us militarily we all seen what Turkey has been getting from Israel if we join the same camp it probably be no different.

Being in the Arab camp should have been with benefits which their ain't we can't keep hurting ourselves for them and their Arab superiority complex thinking they are superior Muslims, those people can't even hold off a country that is even smaller than New Jersey where we stood up against India and they look down upon Pakistan, sadly we choose the wrong camp and that reason was cause of "religion".

Just my 2 Cents.

Arabs postively dont see the WHites as second grade,
lets get back to topic.
Pakistan shouldnt get involved in Palestinian Cause, for one it is a mess, another they dont support Kashmir, I was trying to look at it from a Pakistani prespective.

In some cases whites are included, just as in some cases other races are included.
