Beautiful. I hope the Private Vendors do improve their signage, as it doesn't hold up to the standard of the overall airport. They should spend a little more to have decent signs.

ISLAMABAD: Owner of Islamabad’s Monal restaurant, Luqman Ali Afzal, became the first Pakistani to be awarded a Pride of Performance award for ‘entrepreneurship’, according to a research conducted by Profit.

Instituted in 1958, the President’s Award for Pride of Performance is one of the highest civil awards in Pakistan. To date, this honour has been awarded to artists, sportspersons and scientists and is almost exclusively kept for arts, sports, literature, and medicine categories. This year, however, one nominee has been added in the list of recipients for his entrepreneurial services to the country.

Luqman Ali Afzal is a graduate of Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS). His first entrepreneurial experience came almost two decades ago when he borrowed money from his father to buy the shares of LUMS Khoka (canteen shop). In one of his interviews with a private media outlet in 2015, he recalled the times when he used to frequent his university’s administration office to get a telephone extension for the Khoka so he could start free delivery to hostels. Luqman’s first success story then is transforming a snack bar into an elaborate café with both ready-to-eat and gourmet meals on the menu.

After his graduation, he developed a family recreational area in Lahore on lease from the Punjab government and then also went on to establish a restaurant based on traditional village theme. He continued working with government projects, until one of his bids for a project in Islamabad in 2005 that changed the course of his career and life. This was a project of leasing and operating a restaurant at Pir Sohawa, which eventually became The Monal as we know it.

Today, The Monal stands as an ambassador of Pakistan to foreign delegations and travellers, and continues to be among the most favoured spots for a hearty dinner among the locals as well. Over the years, The Monal has expanded from a restaurant into a catering entity, and now also includes two marquee halls. The amusement project at Lake View Park in Islamabad is also operated under the same company.

ISLAMABAD-The execution of public-private partnership projects of the Capital Development Authority included in Public Sector Development Programme-Plus is not possible in existing legal framework.

The federal government has recently announced a three-year development plan (2020-2023), which is envisioned to be completed with the investment of private sector.

A total of 53 mega projects involving an investment of Rs2 trillion have been identified. The plan has been divided into two categories and is named as PSDP Plus.

The first category has 29 projects in 11 sectors with zero government involvement. The total investment in this category would be Rs9 trillion, while the second category has 24 projects in 7 sectors with limited government involvement. Total investment in this category would be Rs2.3 trillion.

The federal government pointed out at least six projects are to be implemented under PSDP-Plus, which includes a New Blue Area Project Islamabad, a 20km long Havelian to Islamabad Tunnel, expansion of 28km long Islamabad Expressway, 17km long road to connect Margalla Avenue to N-5—commonly known as GT road, waste to energy plant or waste to urea plant and a water treatment project.

The cost of Havelian to Islamabad Tunnel project is estimated Rs25 billion and it is envisioned that the said project will significantly decrease distance of Islamabad with Mansehra and GB.

Under a New Blue Area Project in Islamabad, government land would be used to attract private investors for developing a commercial area generating revenue and economic activity. The said project is estimated to fetch direct investment of Rs150 billion.

Expansion of Islamabad Expressway will connect Faisal Avenue with N-5 (GT Road) and the project is estimated to be built by Rs45 billion and government land may be leased in lieu of viability gap funding.

A new route connecting Margalla Road with N5 will decrease congestion on Kashmir Highway and IJP Road and this project is estimated to be cost at Rs25 Billion.

On the other side, a project to recycle waste water is also on cards and according to plan, the treated water will be pumped back to Rawal Lake for onward consumption of the city however the experts believe that the project is environment friendly but expansive in nature.

Meanwhile, a project of waste to energy was also identified for capital city as 500-600 Kwh energy can be produced per ton of waste and Pakistan generates 48.5 million tons of waste every year.

All of these projects are proposed to be completed with the help and funding of private sector under public-private partnership mode.

CDA Develops A Smart Real Time Progress Monitoring System for Islamabad

Capital Development Authority (CDA) has decided to develop a real-time monitoring system to track the progress of each ongoing project in the federal capital.

The decision has been taken at the directives of CDA Chairman and Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Chief Commissioner, Aamer Ali Ahmed.

Under the proposed project, CDA will install cameras at all project sites in Islamabad. These cameras will be connected to a central monitoring system at the CDA headquarters, offering a 24/7 stream of projects. The system will also produce real-time work progress data and ensure timely completion of all the projects.

Initially, CDA has installed cameras at the construction sites of the Sector G-7/G-8 underpass and Burma bridge at the Lehtrar Road. The system will be expanded to other projects including the Capital Hospital and Park Enclave in the weeks to come
