RAWALPINDI: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government will not wait for the completion of Kashmir Highway interchange and open the metro bus service by the end of January.

Apparently disturbed by the criticism of political parties as well as road users, the government wants to start the service within the stipulated time.

Opposition parties, especially Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI), said the government had launched the project to gain political mileage.

At the start of the project, the government increased the cost by Rs6.17 billion to Rs44.21 billion, which will be spent on Peshawar Mor Interchange.

However, the pace of work by the National Logistic Cell (NLC) on the Peshawar Mor interchange and 9th Avenue remained slow.

A senior official of Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) told Dawn that the provincial government had ignored completion of Peshawar Mor Interchange and Parade Avenue.

“NLC’s slow pace of work at Peshawar Mor Interchange will further delay the project and it was likely to be completed in May or June,” he said, adding that work on Parade Avenue will continue till March end.

Commissioner Rawalpindi and Metro Bus Project Director Zahid Saeed told Dawn that the government had set March 23 deadline for completion of Peshawar Mor Interchange and January 25 for the metro bus route.

“The NLC had been given two more months to complete the project. The corridor for metro bus service is likely to be completed by Jan 25,” he said.

“Peshawar Mor Interchange is already a separate component of the project as it will provide signal-free roads for Kashmir Highway users, and for this purpose the federal government is spending Rs6.17 billion. Four underpasses will provide free way to metro bus from Rawalpindi to Pakistan Secretariat,” he said.

The metro bus project monitoring and implementation committee chairman, Hanif Abbasi, told Dawn that the government was determined to start the bus service by the given deadline to provide travelling facilities to the citizens of Rawalpindi and Islamabad.

“Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif want to start the service within the set deadline,” he said.

He said the metro bus service would be inaugurated by the prime minister and the chief minister on January 30.

Mr Abbasi said people were also facing problems due to the construction work.

great work.

Considering all the hurdles imposed by the anarchists like Sh Rasheed and his sock puppet IK. + that Mullah Al-Weirdo from Canada.

Although i personally believe that all developments are good developments but it wasnt a requirement here. Many cities in lower punjab need metro bus alot more. Metro is also coming to sheikhupura as the city is being linked to lahore with metro as well.

Perhaps it should have come to multan or many other lower punjab cities first.

good point.

While I do not like saying Multan should get it first.

Heck Karachi deserves mass transit system MORE than any other city.

However I am happy for any city that gets the system.

Hope the gov doeesn't ignore smaller cities like Multan.

Well the provincial capitals getting the metros and transit is a given but i think this is a provincial project. I have been hearing about a metro in karachi for quite some time but PPP has completely halted that development otherwise ideally your largest city should have these perks before cities like sheikhupura. Hopefully the federal govt starts a project there as sindh needs to be developed and has been ignored for quite some time. The country of pakistan desperately needs better transport systems and especially rail transit system.

Feds have approved the system for Karachi.

let's see when it starts.

Of all the leaders past and present, anyone who could fight of Karachi Mafias is the leadership of PMLN when it comes to mega projects.

Multan metro is in planning stages, and they will built one in Multan....that is guaranteed.

With PPP and MQM thugs and the pathan mafia running dilapidated buses.....forget it....Karachi won't have a mass transit.

Actually, Karachi had the tram system and then circular railway.....what became of them?

:-):-) After Islamabad Multan Faisalabad and Gujranwala will have Metro bus to and Not to Forget Karachi... 2 Metros are going to build in Karachi 1 Green line by Fed and Sindh Gov and other Blue Line Metro from Super Highway to Tower by Malik Riaz.... They are planning to Extend The Islamabad Metro bus from Faizabad to Barah Kahu and Islamabad-Muree Expressway and From Taxila to Peshawar Morr Interchange...

Many journalists (lifafa ones, per PTI-bots) reported that laborers working at the Metro project were lured into dharnas and paid more than what they might have working on Metro. This is one of the key reasons for the delay in this project.

Elitist mind-set of Islamabad does not understand the need for Metro. Only people of congested cities realize its importance.

Multan will get Metro Bus. But the design would not allow conversion to Metro rail, unlike the provision in Lahore or Islamabad.

Karachi deserves this more than all others. I hope it happens soon enough - but what to do about anarchists?

@Spy Master @waleed3601 dont you think its most speedy development around the world?

Jungla buses will be in islamabad and peshawer is still waiting to havea plan?
i am living is isb..just come here and ask anyone about this bus service...you will know about this "speedy development" and how much inconvenience it has caused to people, Murree road and CDA's recent developments in H sectors...but after all this is our money and i pray k ye Halal hojae...!

Lol.... so you were expecting they will put some lego packs to complete islamabad metro?

Speedy development means you have a starting date and ending date, if you complete before the plan its called speedy development. Any how, i hope someday people actually become positive. Rest will improve automatically
