At least one person has been killed in an explosion in the Pakistani capital.

TV footage from the scene of the blast late Monday showed a body under a blanket.

A witness told Dawn TV news that the explosion took place close to a police station near a market. It was heard across much of the downtown area.

The source of the explosion was not immediately clear.

ISLAMABAD: Two persons were killed and several others injured in a powerful explosion at the gate of Special Branch of Police station in Sector G-7 near Sitara Market in Islamabad, sources said.

However, it is feared the casualties may rise.

The injured are being shifted to the nearby hospitals where emergency has been declared.

The blast was so loud that it shattered the window panes of the surrounding buildings.

Meanwhile, the police have cordoned off the area, while initial reports suggest that it was a suicide attack.

A sad night for Pakistan, a stark reminder as to what lies in the shadows

Hope the people who passed away in this barbaric attack rest in peace. May Allah have mercy on them.

How many times we have seen the lip service following such attacks in Pakistan? TV commentators and politicians will come out and will repeat the same charade nth time. Hamid Mir will host debate on the subject inviting Taliban/terrorist sympathizers who will blame it all on US drone attacks, and Indian /Zionist conspiracy. Déjà vu.

Basically this serves two purposes; firstly, since you blame this on international conspiracy, you imply that there is nothing you could do; instead of putting the blame where it lies; the Islamic extremist elements within Pakistan and their supporters.

Secondly it provides free publicity to terrorists and also the extremists belief that they
are wining is reinforced.

Pray tell me, if this is not a sure slide towards talibinization of Pakistan, then what is it?
