KARACHI: Amid speculations circling in the media regarding his resignation, Governor Sindh Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) late on Friday night left for Dubai as a video footage aired on private TV channels showed him arriving at the Karachi airport.

It was yet to be ascertained as for how long he has left for UAE as the governor house in Karachi could not confirm date of his return.

Political and journalistic circles are observing the development with great interest in the context of prevailing political situation of the province.

The MQM, including its chief Altaf Hussain, have been protesting against what they claim a one-sided action against the party’s office bearers, being conducted by the Sindh government in Karachi.

Tension engulfed the port city on Wednesday when a former lawmaker of MQM was detained by the law enforcers during the ongoing targeted operation against miscreants. Markets, businesses, shops and fuel stations were shut down in several areas after the arrest of Nadeem Hashmi, who has been sent on week-long physical remand by an ATC, was reported on TV news channels.

Speaker Sindh Assembly Agha Siraj Durrani will presumably take charge as the acting governor in Ishratul Ibad’s absence.

In his more than a decade long time at the governor house, this is not the first instance when the MQM leader tendered his resignation and then withdrew it later on insistence of his party chief Altaf Hussain.

Upon persuasion by former president Asif Ali Zardari of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) – the former coalition partners of MQM of having a long history of love-hate relationship – Hussain advised Ibad to take back his resignation on more than one occasion.

In June 2011 and again in February this year, he tendered his resignation hours after the MQM pulled out of the ruling coalition in the province and at the centre in protest against noncompliance on their ‘reservations.’

On both counts, Altaf Hussain asked the governor to reconsider his decision in the light of requests made by the business community, industrialists, religious scholars, and people belonging to different spheres of life and for the sake of peace and stability in Sindh.

hopefully he wont be back?
so thn MQM would be eaten alive?
thts the end of MQM?
is this will lead to peace in karachi?
i think the answer is no, whatever is going to happen next, will going to benefit PPP more thn any one else, casess against PM & interrior minster would be lunched, if any of MQM workers or its leadership , gets hurt same as the level, as musaharf facing lal masjid?
MQM gets the punch?
PMLn bye bye from sindh?

Ishrat ul ebaad has a house in Canada too, its worth around 6 million dollars. He's got property in dubai, UK and saudia. I am pretty sure he has some property in malaysia or singapore. A lot of politicians from south asia have property in those countries

everything with the MQM is a circus ... just look at their flip flops in the past 6 years alone and u can see how they will behave in future.

He is a British Citizen that is why he is not coming to Pakistan. He is subservient to the crown and not Supreme Court of Pakistan.

Not the first time, its about 3rd time that he has done the same thing.

I think this time resignation by EI is final. He was intelligent to do that after leaving the country otherwise he would not have be able to leave.

Ishratul-Ibad is reported to have resigned - again. But I think this time resignation is going to stick. There is no shaky coalition government that needs MQM to prop it up.

I have been watching PML-N's policy towards MQM. While MQM has wanted desperately to woo PML-N since 2009, PML-N has wanted to keep no more than a functioning communication relation. It has been clear that PML-N does not see MQM as a reliable partner.

At this point, I see chances for Governor rule in Sindh in a few months. Removal of Isharatul Ibad works in PML-N's favor in that they get to appoint a Governor of their choice. MQM has maneuvered itself into a blind street and looks increasingly weak. With PPP applying pressure in guise of operation these days, MQM is bound to lash back. If & when that happens, we would see a ready-made case for Governor's rule. Now that would be up to PML-N to exploit in its favor.

What are the concerned parties thinking now? PPP? MQM? PML-N? and very interestingly, is PTI ready for the gaps that would be opened up and would PML-N allow PTI to take advantage? A number of bets are up in these very interesting times.

A conspiracy theory:
1. MQM agreed for operation cleanup - this means they agreed to clean their own ranks as well. So mutually agreed that when operation takes place MQM will make a lot of noise a couple of strikes etc.
2. CM to lead the operation - cleanse MQM thoroughly and Amn Committee scantily. There, it is a biased operation.
3. Only Governor Raj can guarantee an across the board operation.
4. Eishrat ul Ibad is MQM man so PPP will make noise. He cannot be thrown out.
5. EI resigns, resigns will be accepted. He will stick to the resign.
6. One month given to CM Sindh for ops clean up already coming to end. PPP not coming hard on Amn Committe in Lyari. Good enough reason to put Governor rule. Now governor of PML (N).

OPS CLEAN UP SUCCESSFUL.

480 of top wanted terrorists or on list of agencies have already left karachi Ishrat has many case on him i don't know if he was pardoned by NRO or in musharafs era

or the bahi will see karachi situation from London and is bringing top MQM leaders to uk to make situation room and then "handle" the situation

Should have left matter in hands of Farooq satar and company as bahi is not well up in the head as evident from his speeches weather he is normal or ab normal at that time

whata logic...

hamaray paas Karachi ka 80% mandate hey.. tu bhai agar 80% so called TUmharay looog hain tu pakray b ziada tumharay he jayeengay LOLZzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

ager chor tumhare ghar ata he, tu police chor ke bajaye tumhare ghar waalon ko pakre ge q ke ghar me tum majority the?

THIS IS JUST PRESSURE TACTICS to show government to stay away from NADEEM HASHMI case. once hashmi is released he will take his resignation back!
