Pakistan has enough human and material resources to sustain a decent middle class living if not luxurious lifestyle. Mountains of North for tourism, minerals of Baluchistan, river Indus, a considerably long coastline, fallow film industry and last but not the least, technical talent for modern industries and foreign direct investment. It is only a matter of implementing.
Why have they not done it? Is there a deliberate design to prevent progress of Pakistan? Those who are skeptical and dismiss this as a conspiracy theory should remember that this is not unprecedented. The British did something akin to it before 1947. If it is indeed the case then the only difference is that the British did it more openly and frankly. If we remember the British Raj this conspiracy theory would sound plausible.
Pakistan’s poverty cannot be attributed to terrorism because there was almost no terrorism till 1990s. Nor can it be attributed to corrupt politicians and lack of democracy. These factors are disliked by many people but once they had their fill or even before it, at some point, corrupt politicians and military dictators too start working for the betterment of the masses. Here is an explanatory example to drive home the point.
It is relevant to this topic that Wikipedia states that the Golden Age of Pakistani cinema lasted till 1977. What happened suddenly in 1977? It is also relevant that Pakistani diaspora has done well in West (example: Shahid Khan) despite facing prejudice and other odds but Pakistan, the country itself hasn't gone far.
Some Pakistanis may even deny that there is poverty in Pakistan. If so, how would they explain that PCB (Pakistan Cricket Board) appears to be perennially bankrupt?
It is understandable if the economic backwardness had persisted for 3 or 4 decades. But now 6 decades have passed. Still it continues.
If there is indeed a conspiracy to keep Pakistan backward, how do the conspirators actually do it? Who are the key people whom they bribe? Do politicians and administrators get any ‘gifts’?
P.S.: Pakistan's diversity also cannot be blamed. And why should diversity matter? Are the different ethnicities enemies of each other? Pakistan is a small country. It should be quite manageable for governance. And since it is small it is easy for outsiders to manipulate it.
There was a time when Pakistan was ahead of India. But Pakistan had one weakness. The Pakistani populace is given to corruption. For some money, many of the Pakistan’s sons of the soil won’t think twice before taking traitorous decisions. Recent past is littered with such instances.
Example 1: The mole in the 1971 war gave crucial intelligence input to India regarding the plans of Pakistan Air Force.
Example 2: RAW had created a contact in Pakistan who gave them information regarding the plans and geographic location of the Pakistan’s nuclear weapons program.
Example 3: It is said that Zia-ul-Haq had no plan to travel by plane. It was some Pakistani who persuaded-pressurized Zia to sit in the plane which later met with the ‘accident’.
Preference of personal interest over that of society or nation and it’s a small country to boot – those are the traits which makes it possible for outsiders to control Pakistan.
There are some science facts that seem like bullshit but are actually true.
Pakistan may be under
COVERT SECRETIVE FOREIGN COLONIALISM!!!!
