Reading in the metro, especially if you manage to find yourself a seat, is such a pleasure. But, thanks to the volatile environment we are currently living in, a person (of an unknown gender) had the most unpleasant experience ever. Why? Because he/she was allegedly 'caught' reading a booklet of the recently concluded Jashn-e-Rekhta festival which happened to be in Urdu.

Here's the tweet doing the rounds:

As you can clearly read, the person in question was reading a booklet in Urdu. What's wrong with that? Absolutely nothing!

But the tweets that followed were "quite an insight into organised trollery":

For the uninitiated:

  • Urdu happens to be one of the eighteen national languages of the Union of India. Hindi is one of them and NOT the only one.
  • It is NOT a crime to read in the metro. Shoving your bag in people's faces is.
  • Having an opinion is NOT a crime. Forcing others to accept it is.
  • Reading is a good thing. Everyone should try it out.
  • Thinking is an excellent thing. People should be careful when doing that.
Intolerance is a heavily loaded word. Recently, it has been thrown around quite a bit with every other pot calling the kettle black. It is the trend to notice the speck in your brother's eye while completely ignoring the plank in yours. In the midst of this volatile environment, what we need is anything but partisan politics.

Sadly common man is pushed to the wall so hard in last few years of so call hindu, extremist hindus, bhagwa hindus, that people are now just reciprocating in unexpected way.
Early when someone bearing a tikka was called extremist hindu and there were debates on television asking the person to remove it, then how can a person reading an urdu newspaper cannot be name called? This is dangerous activities where in just appearance is going to judge a person.

Extremism takes it tool. Pakistan has paid it with 50 thousand lives and 80 Billion dollars. What is India prepared to offer when it decides to leave it out? Currently, it is only embracing extremism more and more.. Good luck with reaching your climax and good luck for the cost of coming down, if it would ever!

alright, is this military fan-boy a pdf member or from 'bharat rakshak' or from idrw??

alok ji, name one other country in the world in the last 2600 years where brahminism and sangh ideology has been acceptable, especially to the point of becoming the state ideology??

the haraami who said this, send him/her to israel or usa, after all they are the "natural allies". :)

there should be a free ticket for all such unrequired types in india.

God speed India
Thank God he was just reading a book and not eating beef burger.

Surely its not necessary to use Arabic script is it ? :coffee: Maybe they should print Urdu booklet with devnagari script. Oh wait, it then suddenly become "Hindi". I guess that is not "secular".

Lol. This is the city of Ghalib and Bahadur Shah

yeah, the irony.

better yet, as i have been saying on pdf for long, we must use only roman script to write not only urdu but all desi languages.

a simple and common sense grammar must be developed.

let us present a good example to the world towards the unification of humanity.

what say??
