Is Pakistan Better Off Industrially (and More Diverse in Industrial Production) Compared to Bangladesh?

[
How come Vietnam is lower than Bangladesh?

They're considerably higher up the manufacturing value chain than us. Their exports of Samsung smartphones alone are much higher than our total exports as a country.

It seems like BD, China and Vietnam are the only two countries on the list that managed to increase their manufacturing value. Perhaps it's why the aforementioned countries still managed to grow their economies while everyone else shrank. Though Vietnam's currently under a lot of problem
how?

Covid Spike

It's on its way down now, but it was bad enough to disrupt their industrial output. Bangladesh managed to take in a lot of orders as a result. But it's something they can recover from without too much difficulty.

ah that's just a temporary thing, that's not a deep issue

Guys I view industrial small scale production all the time on different video platforms in India, Bangladesh and Pakistan, and IMHO I'd say Pakistan has a far superior industrial basis than Bangladesh on small scale Industrial sector (although a bit backdated in technology but very self-sustaining nonetheless).

The basis of economical production In small scale sector are all local raw materials, sometimes recycled. I will highlight some videos here for you all to see,

It is my belief that you will realize how active/productive Pakistani small-scale Industrial sector is and how we in Bangladesh can collaborate with that sector in Pakistan to improve ours - maybe using JV's and/or employing Pakistani machinery and experts who are in a unique position to help us.

The tech used is what is termed 'appropriate technology' whose main advantage is extreme low overhead and economical methods to make products of "high enough" and "acceptable" quality in remote areas, where low investment and backdated technology are advantages, not barriers to production.

Making products using automation and in super clean conditions like Walton often entail high cost. I have immense respect for these hard-working Mehnati folks in Pakistan who work in demanding conditions to earn a living. I guess some introduction to safety regimes (like covers for rollers and gears and shoes for workers who handle molten metal) would not hurt in some cases.

Specialisation is better than being jack of all trade.

Youtube is not a good indicator.

There is zero possibility of JV on such cottage industry type stuff. JV will come about only when economies of scale makes sense.

BD has all of these types of industry...

Cookware..... BD manufacturers dominate market

BD ceramics aiming to be the 3rd biggest export earners.

Diversity ia economics 101

my point on pakistani products are they are still making classic strong things while world is moved to disposable now . i notice most of things made as 1960s era in pakistan .

Someone needs to just go
And jolt them into the new world

it has a vibrant textile and pharma sector, it has pulled millions out of poverty in the last 2 decades , its rapidly progressing and will , by 2040 , enter the league of middle level income countries

I have watched vlogs taken by some Chinese female employees in Chinese companies in Bangladesh. There are so many female employees in the textile industry same as Shenzhen 40 years ago. Chinese women and Bangladeshi female employees get along very well.

Bangladesh enjoys a significant advantage of not having security issues. Pakistan on the other hand has to deal with an enemy 10 times bigger in every sense. Pakistan has a diverse industrial base but we haven't been able to convert it into export oriented due to high energy and material costs. Locally we are self sufficient in lot of areas. Subsidised electricity and gas is now generating more exports but it will take time.

From some recent incidents in Bangladesh,it seems India is going to disturb BD internally.PM Haseena is also angry with India so you can see it.

Hope BD will nip the evil in the bud

for example water pimps and motors made in pakistan need two people to carry . whily italy and china made a 15yo kid can carry .

The issue seems to be with the older hollow sand-casting tech which makes a robust strong product with strong impeller housing (the part without the motor) compared to newer lost-foam casting tech these days which makes a relatively thin-walled impeller part. The newer jet pumps are also lighter (Pedrollo brand from Italy has been sold in Bangladesh for four decades now - way before Chinese products gained popularity). Both have their pros and cons. If you want an agricultural pump, they need to be lightweight and movable. For a stationary pump, heavier is probably fine.

there will be no cheap energy and labor in this country

There will be after current hydro power projects mature in next 5 years. Add nuclear into mix as well. Khan did the right thing by not opting for more coal/lng powered plants. In coming days there will be no cheap fossil fuel source.

If india wants an unstable bangladesh then it has ample resource in indian bengal. It wont be easy to nip it in bud consider our rxample with afghanistan where ethnic pashtoonism played major role in our instability as well. Haseena knows tge stakes which is why she will stick with India even of they slap her in public.
