Is our success dependent on english ?

Pardon me if I sound retard ..
But usage of English in our educational system is making things difficult for some students . Not all students can work well in english and not everyone can make up their mind to understand those new words of this language.
In our country, there are many people who have very high iq and have got a very sound mind still cannot go ahead in education if they don't have a complete grasp on english or regard education as difficult cause of new language.
Your native language affects your brain development. Western nations have the benefit that they use english in their daily life also then carry studying in the same language and also rule the world with this same language.
While it's not case with us, our mind is developed in urdu , study in Same language but then told that it's important to learn English to move ahead or to become a successful person in this earth like the famous people. In order to get a job , you need to have grasp in english that is just a injustice to those who don't know english.

Seems like your iq is not any benefit to you unless you learn English . It should be limited to a language of interaction and should not be given the state of dependency on it .

Hi,

The chinese learnt it from the koreans and the japanese to learn english before they come to the U S.

You cannot live in prejudice against a language---. When all your major research in technology and advancement is carried out in english---then that is what you need to learn---.

Do you young pakistanis think that we just made advancements in our nuc program by studying urdu---then you are mistaken---.

All our scientists participating in that program in the 60's---70's were acting--thinking---living and working like of they were in the U S---UK---Germany or hollnd etc etc etc---.

Same dress code---english as the main language spoken---same work hours---same work days---same shopping habbits---same transportaion system as they had in the US or UK---.

Urdu had no industrial / technological base and still does not have any---like the chinese or the japanese language had---or like the german french polish or other languages had.

There were no books on industrial technology and development in urdu---there was no centuries of research in urdu language as well.

The japanese had---the chinese had---the koreans---but when they realized that in order to get to the next plateau---they had to learn english---they have embraced it without prejudice and same with europe's non english speaking countries---.

Progressive nations have looked at language as a TOOL to get to a higher level of development---the loss of identity is a character issue and not that of a language issue.

My uncle---one of the pioneers of pak nuc program---was the son of illiterate parents---but when he did---he lived like an american even in pakistan---but still had his father living in the house till he passed away.

So---it is not the language that is the problem---it is the character of the person that may create an issue.

And that is why I rated negative. That is not how you talk to a woman. :(

Exactly and when one hasn't even said anything mean or nasty.
And rightly so, coarse behaviour against good fine folk especially the women of our nation is totally and utterly UNACCEPTABLE, their has to be consequences for this, a permanent ban should be implemented immediatley, no question about it.Kudos

Opening wells has nothing to do with abusing women. I am not abusing women. I am talking to someone directly. It's unfortunate that you are too mentally deficient to understand this.

PS: I'm pretty sure you don't do shit but pass a couple of bucks around during Ramadan.

Language? HAHAHA. You Pakistanis are so fucking stupid. The biggest thieves in Pakistan are stealing directly from you, but you will accept it as long as they speak politely. LMAO

OMG, this generation is retarded.
LOTP unnecessarily abusing good folk (female ones at that) does not make you some kind of online alpha-male hero but rather makes you look weak, ill-tempered and unhinged, a sensible word of advice, cool down or log-off!

OP should know he/she is fighting a war that has been lost, at least in India... there was resurgence of such linguistic pride among our rulers few decades ago, the languages were regional but the arguments were same... 'how can we truly be free, if we rely on language of our colonialist'

The anti-English language feeling and wish to assert dominance of local language were played out in various degrees in different states. Places where people were allowed to use English invariably came out winner in this, their kids could get better education, climb ladders in business/bureaucracy positions easily.
When India opened up to the world in 90s, they were first in the queue to take advantage of it.

One of the biggest complaint was also that the dear leaders were hypocrites.. their own kids went to English medium schools and get fast tracked in life where as ordinary poor kids suffered.

The lower caste groups got it, that they will forever be forced to be inferior in a skewed job market because upper caste people will always have access to better education, so they reject the idea wholesale, even worship goddess 'English'. :)

Ignore English at your own peril, you can do the experiment on your own kids, lets see how it goes, plz dont do that disastrous experiment on large number of people(a populist politician might oblige but he wont suffer, you will), learn from our experience.

Sir you have summed it up nicely. The current status of Urdu and all the time it has been in use reflects on our progress in research, development and innovation. Urdu no doubt has a rich literature value and is one of the best languages when it comes to poetry and literature but Urdu speakers failed miserably to invent and progress in fields of science and medicine and have descended into a confused state. It is heart wrenching to see that some of the eye opening history (related to Islam) are written in Urdu but our youth won't understand a word from those books. (By the way those books can help build a strong counter narrative and help in removing the differences created by Mullah).

English as a language is necessity, because almost all the scientific work is documented in that language, all the things that we need to learn to even start walking on our feet as nation is documented in that language. It is a reality (that should be accepted) that all the modern technological developments are ownership of English. It is the ruler and rightly so, it deserves that unless we outmatch it.

However, treating a language as some fashion and high circle thing is pure Pakistani thing. I have met Americans who cannot spell and write their own names properly and on the other hand I have met Pakistanis who would suffocate if their child doesn't call tamatar a tomato ........ My personal experience, as a parent I regularly get invited to a Parent teacher meeting every other month, my clothing, normally for those meetings is decent Pakistani wear (kurta shalwar) and every time I meet a new teacher, I keep praying in my heart please keep your use of English limited, not because I don't like it, no at all, but because I don't want to make them realise the embarrassing way that English is a language and not some tool to impress others (my child would learn by time to call tamatar a tomato, not a big deal) ......... talking English with a Gora and then talking English with a Pakistani are two very different experiences ........

But how good will it be if there's a way for success for those too who have no grasp on English .
We should not let those talented and geniuses get wasted and spoiled .
This would nation's responsibility to provide opportunities for them to

For example large number of blue collar jobs such as manufacturing sector can solve this.

Totally support the permanent ban for such posters. It makes the environment so uncomfortable for a person like me to post on forum.

Ps: I still have no disrespect for this person. But this attitude should NOT be acceptable.

I swallowed my ego years ago and realised that my elders were losers who got conquered by the superior Western civilisation. Therefore, I have no pride in a culture that only resulted in defeat and colonial rule by the master race.
europeans advanced because of competition amongst themselves they have the perfect conditions over there so more time to innovative. pit off a gun toter against a sword wielder and the guns going to win superior weaponry nothing to do with culture

This tamatar seems to have permanently scarred the psyche of many Pakistanis.

Cheers, Doc

Naaaaah .......... you can replace tamatar with aloo and tomato with potato. I have seen mothers trying teach their, as young as two years kids, Say ......... cu cum ber ......... to ma to ......... po ta to ..... and I don't get the whole idea of that exercise, because one day I too called aloo a potato after calling it a aloo my whole life ......... but the difference is when someone says aloo I understand what he is referring to unlike these alien kids who look puzzled at sound of aloo....

Honestly all that individual does is trash talk every female including his own, what is his problem? Challenging and arguing with females makes him such a ‘man’ and unnecessary conflict with people across the border without any reason is uncalled for. I’m not as nice as @Well.wisher she’s been more than nice and has enough patience. Eventually he stopped with me since I put him in his place, but this bullying attitude is disgusting and can be classed as cyber bullying. What a poor excuse of a man. Goodbye to the loser.

I respect your stance @DESERT FIGHTER

Tell that to europeans who translated all the knowledge they acquired from arabs into their native language and progressed! Ohh they should have learn arabic right!! Not against learning english or any language but all the scientific knowledge or any literature should be translated into urdu so majority of the population can benifit and not just few!! And i am sure there are many gems in Pakistan who dont understand english but they can benifit from knowledge if it was in the language they can understand easily!

Hi,

Off course they learnt arabic and persian when seeking that knowledge---.

But they then made progress on their own as well---when they advanced their technology---they started writing in their own language---when they realized that there was no further progress and new technology coming out of that region.

Prior to that---the knowledge in europe was obsolete---the knowledge in middle east though advanced had become static---. Wars had devastated the source of knowledge---.

So---it was a normal outcome of progression---whomsoever gained that knowledge---transferred it to their own language and moved ahead---.

The middle easterners gained their knowledge from the greek---and translated it over to their language.

This was just a natural progression of things.
