Interesting article from the Times of India about some UCLA researchers employing some different techniques to narrow OBL to possibly one of three compounds in Parachinar.

There's an accompanying video embedded to the article that shows google earth images of the three primary properties. According to UCLA, they developed six criteria that OBL would require and these compounds met all six. A further sixteen locations in the area satisfied five of six requirements-

I've alerted our former Parachinar resident, Abu Zolfiqar and look forward to his thoughts. If any of you are current or former residents, I'd certainly be eager to read your thoughts as well.

OTOH, if you're his landlord, I'd completely understand if you don't utter a peep...but I'll split the reward.

these people are so stupid. parachinar is dominated by the tori tribe which is shia. they are vehemently against the taliban because they are crazy sunni people who want to kill all the shia. plus last year during the clashes between shia and sunni alqaida was actually helping the taliban in killing tori tribesman. then why in blue hell will the tori tribe not *** out OBL and get him killed.
this is what happens when smart people talk about stuff that they have no clue about.

I'm looking forward to reading Abu Zolfaqir's reply. I know that he's a former shia resident of the area. The article makes clear that Parachinar skies remain remarkably free of PREDATOR.

That would be a concern of OBL's.

I believe that there's also been extensive inter-tribal warfare here in the last year, IIRC. Maybe Kurram and Khyber both were involved in some sunni-shia fracas.

Dunno. Doesn't Pashtunwali prevail with shia pashtu as well? More an ethnic code than religious, isn't it?

Too, there remain stories of his wounding at Tora Bora and his continuing kidney ailments. That may have some effect on his ability to move, even now. He may need special care that's difficult to re-establish if forced to again move.

If it was so simple, Pakistan has openly challenged these experts thousands of times... If you know where he is, come arrest him and end the war right now.

One thing I know for certain... when people will KNOW where he is, they won't write about it in a newspaper, rather gunships, war planes, drones, tanks, and a few battalions would be sent to nab him.

This is what pisses me off. Now the dumbass average reader won't think critically about this "news". And would be go like "OMG, those damn Pakistanis are screwing with us!". These tabloid trash newspapers a few quick bucks at our expense.

Yup.

I'm really thinking he's up in Chitral but I like the UCLA analysis for a lot of reasons.

There's little doubt he's in Pakistan...or at least his bones are.

I'm sure they told the authorities their thoughts on discovery. Perhaps they were even contracted to do some work on behalf of the CIA. In any case, it takes awhile to write up and publish findings so this has some time behind it.

Well I heard this a few weeks/months back too.

If I say he's in tobateksingh, who's going to prove me wrong? When you go there to look for him, I'd go like "Oh I was write, probably the damn Pakistanis tipped him off".

If its been around for a few months and the authorities have already dismissed it, why let it hit the printing presses?

p.s. OBL wouldnt last even 3 seconds in Kurram Agency --let alone Parachinar!!!! People talk. We know who is from the area and who isnt.....

OBL, Taleban --any of those types of people would be shot immediately.
