Is Mig-29 jets Good for Pakistan, For Maritime Attack?

too costly to maintain

Well, I think the real reason is they want a 4.5 Gen Fighter as Sukhoi MKM that they will get has more Costs to Maintain than MIgs.

They want a More Deadly Fighter... Thats the Prime Reason.

Mig 29s wont be a Good Idea. Instead Get some New f16s ( you already have the infra ) or get new Jf17s for the same price.

Your purpose is to defend Pakistan NOT to Create a Museum of all Types of Birds.

Get More F16s/J10s.. This Will Keep India on their toes.

F-16's for maritime patrol though?
Mig-29 is a good aircraft for PN but doubt they're getting it :smitten:

Mirage 200 is coming half of price and we have infastructure to maintain it with mig 29 we have to pay more than new JF 17 so why buy old but mirage willl cost us around JF 17 and those come with european tech and radars so it is good option to go for mirage and mirage is true fighter jet for maritime use too

and those mirages are in damn good condition 40 percent of used its avionics stilll has long life to servr paf

who's selling you the mirage-2000's?

Mig 29

Would look fine in Pakistan Airforce

a) We always need to keep our assets diverse
b) Experience with Mig 29 will enable our pilots to gain experience with flying
Twin engine planes and also have real training sessions vs Twin engine based
fighters
c) The Plane is fast - agile and still used in many armies , it could be a great asset
if the Mig29 are transfered directly to Pakistan Navy Operation or for protecting out
Awacs as they are fast birds they can intercept incoming threats

I think Pakistan should seriously cosider F15E & Mig 29 ,20 each , so it diversify its Airforce and not over rely on just one platform F16 etc

The biggest advantage is we will have 14 planes immediately vs waiting for 1 year to get 20 JF17 thunder, so for now we do need some Air Superiority fighters

It will prepare us for future use of J11 craft from China

18 F16 BLOCKD/E + 14 Mig 29 would make up for the 90's arms embargo very fast

If planned right

By 2010 end we could have 24 JF17 Thunders, 18 F16 Block C/D

I like deasls where you pay and then you get 14 ready planes to just fly form Malasia to Jinnah Airport - 4-5 hours , as oppose to wait 2 years for delivery from you know who

Pakistan is neither getting the Mig-29s nor the Mirage 2000s, the prior is out of question as it is not feasible in anyway so Mig-29s are out of question.

At one stage $4 billion for purchase of forty Mirage 2000-V had been negotiated by the government with France, and the PAF was keen to acquire the weapon system though at a lower cost. The PAF wanted to negotiate a reduction in the price tag and the interest payments so that about $750 million could be saved to upgrade the ADGE. The acquisition of Mirage 2000-V, in the meanwhile, became a controversial issue and was subjected to adverse comments alleging incorrect choice of system, strain on the economy, and involvement of kickbacks. When the change in the government followed both the governments found that the state of the country’s economy was such that it could not afford the acquisition.

The Mirage V that will be replaced by JF-17 will go into the maritime role for a short period.
In the next 5 years Pakistan will spend its money on f-16's, JF-17 Thunders and FC-20 no plans on buying anything else anytime soon.

If we are serious of getting Mirage 2000 we can get it from uae via france which is looking for customers to retired uae mirages to sell it new rafales in place of Mirage 2000 so we can get it if we want if we dont than it is not possible to get anyfighter jet in the world Mig 29 is out of question when u buy fighter jet u dont buy fighter jet u have to buy its full infastructure which is more expansive than a fighter jet trainning, engineering trainning, missiles etc which is big headache for just 20 fighter jets and it is coming from a country which dont like to sell any thing to pakistan russia in future if we want its spares it will be big probleum there are 2 option Mirage 2000 or SU 27 version of china J 11B which is seriously we can get with fulll infastructure and at very reasonable rate toooo

Pakistan can buy 14 Mig-29 jets from Malaysia (Malaysia trying to sell it's Mig-29 jets)

Ukraine can upgrade Pakistani Mig-29 jets, Verkhovna Rada the Defense Industrial Complex of Ukraine is fully capable to upgrade Mig-29 aircraft, Ukraine upgraded 49 Mig-29 jets for Azerbaijan in 2005.

Ukraine & Azerbaijan can train Pakistani Pilots & Aircraft Engineers to operate Mig-29 jets.

Pakistan will never buy these MiGs because of logistics and training costs etc.

The only benefit will be that PAF can fly the JF-17s and F-16s against MiG29 for practice but we don't need 14 jets for that.

It may be a good investement for India or for Bangladesh AFs.

Pakistan is no more interested in Mirage 2000 especially after France's offer of Rafale to India.

Mig-29 is good for exactly nothing. The problem is that a plane of that size should never have been fitted with twin engine. It combat range is short, weapon load is low, and maneuverability is inferior to heavy fighters. Also, being a twin engine jet makes it expensive to maintain.

What about the EF-2000 or Rafale? Fun fact, the Mig is larger than both.

It combat range is short, weapon load is low.

Old Mig-29 were famous for this. However, the new RD-33MK engines that power the Mig-35 are superior to the old RD-33's, thus with upgraded engines the Mig-29's range, power, payload, and maintanance cost all improve.

maneuverability is inferior to heavy fighters.

Wow, just wow...:hitwall:

Also, being a twin engine jet makes it expensive to maintain.

They are more expensive. However, the RD-33MK's on the Mig-35 reduce the flight hour cost to 2.5 times compared to old RD-33's.

Show me the numbers of its latest variant then. As far as I know, its 700km combat radius basically makes this an overly expensive interceptor.
