It's a montrous waste of money. Shivaji anyways is highly overrated. I'd rather have a statue of Netaji or Bhagat Singh but that too not this expensive.

Every part of India is the way it is because of circumstances and differing environments. Let's not get too judgemental. Just like @Rajaraja Chola says, there are differing times when each State of India has given great men and women for the Nation's cause.
Bengal has been steadily going down for decades now. It does not mean it will never come up and produce great leaders and contribute to the nation again.

PS: I am proud of Shivaji as well. Infact one of our yesteryear popular hero, the guy in the dp is Sivaji Ganesan. He got the title after he potrayed his role in a drama which became such a hit in TN. And thus Ganesan became Sivaji Ganesan.

It is the industrial and IT and auto hub of Maharashtra. Not Mumbai.

In fact it is the biggest auto cluster in India. And with the entry of Foxconn into Talegaon, it will become the largest and most profitable IT, telecom and hardware SEZ as well.

Nagpur, Kolhapur and Nasik are not far behind.

We have more industrial hubs in the state than any other state in India. And what logic is it to remove Mumbai from Maharashtra? Why? Should we remove Chennai from Tamil Nadu?

In a state, that is notorious for farmer suicide (3000 died in 2015 alone) and where 17,000 women and children in tribal areas just perished in one year due to malnutrition? You must be joking. This statue is an insult to Chatrapati Shivaji.

There was a government which did not build any statue still farmers committed suicide. Now there is a government which is building statue and suicides have reduced drastically. Some time we try to establish co relation in some events which are not co related.

Sir, please just let it go. You will just NEVER understand what a large no of Maharashtrians feel (maharashtrians meaning people of Maharashtra, about 35 to 40pct of whom non marathis).

We can LITERALLY point out a million other wastes of money, anti development policies, anti national policies and politics carried out in other states of India. And Shivaji is our ultimate hero, and all his stories that tell our children are of benevolence, pragmatism and about INDIAN nationalism. Nobody will tell a Sikh Ranjeet Singh was over rated, but every two bit academician from a particular political leaning will belittle Shivaji. Why? Because in the end we can be taken for granted. Our Indian nationalism can be taken for granted unlike a dozen other states. Let us build a statue. Yes the money can be better used. Every cent the gov't spends can be better used. Don't pick on Shivaji. He united us. And we have replicated that spirit in Maharashtra, which is a mini India today. If you can't appreciate it, at least keep out. A humble request because I respect your work.

Total waste of time and money. Do marathas need such a big statue to realize their rich history. Indians need more maturity.
Should have used those funds to clean rivers, canals or build new road links between poorly connected towns/cities.
