Hi, I sincerely hope you don't intend to troll - back to serious business - India is a developing economy and like any other developing economy we have our own set of problems - You can have the best and the worst experience from the same city for example - New Delhi - It's airport (IGI Airport) has been adjudged the world's best airport for the year 2014, under the category of handling 25 to 40 million passengers per annum - it's Terminal T3 is comparable to the best in the world and so it's Airport Express metro service -

Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport adjudged world's best airport

But at the same time Delhi (essentially Old Delhi not New Delhi) ends up at the bottom of the Swachh Bharat rankings done by Union urban development ministry - that is it is one of the filthiest cities in India -

Now coming to the cost factor - India is the cheapest place to buy on the planet - You can afford everything well within your budget from Five Star Hotel Rooms to a pair of Levis Jeans - they all are cost-effective that is More bang for the Buck! Remember these happen to be "Premium" Services in "Metro" cities - local services in small Indian cities are even more cheaper - As a tourist you don;t certainly have to worry about your budget!

Now coming to cleanliness - A lot has changed since the launch of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (English: Clean India Mission) by PM Modi - of course it will take time to get rid of the filth in every corner but results are pretty evident in case New Delhi Railway Station and Varanasi's River Banks. Do refer the Swachh Bharat rankings done by Union urban development ministry - Mysore is the cleanest Indian city with a lot of tourist attractions and so is Bangalore - the Silicon Valley of Asia - And of course India's North East - nothing short of a heaven - Do visit! and as far Delhi is concerned - Old Delhi is filthy but Not New Delhi that is NDMC and Delhi Cantonment - it's clean.

Thank you for your honest reply, the airports look wonderful, and hope the citizens of India can clean up India. But you are right India is developing and that is good to see and read, do Indians have pride in the country? As in keeping it clean etc?

Look if you want to visit a very clean place then India is not a right choice to visit for you. But question is do people visit India to enjoy cleaness? Answer is no. People visit India to enjoy colors , food, culture, people , heritage, seasons etc. Once you visit the whole world and then visit India , you will find that India is different and unic. If you want to enjoy cleaness then you should visit Europe .

@Black Alloy I just checked. You do seem to be concerned a little more than usual about cleanliness in India or Pakistan, considering you have already created some 7-8 threads on the same topic. Did you not get answers to your questions yet ? You seem to be asking the same questions over and over again..

As you all may know I am planning on travelling maybe next year, and India is always been on my bucket list along with Pakistan and China. But this thread is about India and some of the videos I have seen show India to be a filthy country. Now I want to know if India is actually this filty? Go to Delhi and enjoy street food tap water no problem you will love it. promise

hygiene issue is there... even in Pakistan.. see Ayesha mumtaz raids about food resturants.. However, india's slumps have numerous bacteria cultures, very strong, which are unfamiliar/extnct in EU or developed countries.. like diarrhea, typhoid, TB etc...so careful...

I've been to Dehli; you can basically describe it as some green patches(Delhi Gate, ect...) surrounded by filth(Rest of Delhi). All of India is basically like that (with some exceptions) . If you are going to visit; dont eat the local food; i learnt that the hard way and the only good place to visit is the far north india (Mostly Kashmir).

Best street food is always set up next to garbage bins and covered with flies. Try to avoid anything hot or freshly made, as the food has not properly absorbed the flavour. It should be at least 2 days old. Try to eat this type at least 10-12 times on your trip.

Poor you...I can understand how it feels when you can't afford food in a decent restaurant and have to live on cheap street food. How safe is the street food in Pakistan....should I include the links.

I can understand your feelings you know very well about the quality of the street food because person like you who raised on roads worked in street food stalls abused by bosses and older fellows have much experience.

As an Indian who has traveled widely to places, I strongly suggest that you give India a miss on your tour. The huge over-traded markets with it consistent crowds will surely irk an Aussie who is used to clean cities which are free of pollution and crowding. If you are a White Aussie (which I seriously doubt) then I suggest that you choose a more spacious and cleaner environment for any South Asian tour. Pakistan as a travel destination for starters exemplifies a mixture of first and third world standards. Tourists are known to die of fun in Pakistan. Nanga Parbat is one particular place which I suggest that you don't give a miss.

Off course after Pakistan, that bastion of the Bengali must be visited. Once in Bangladesh, Chittagong Hill Tracts is where any tourist must stop for a relaxing few days.
