Its not a problem with watching them , Its problem with guys who cannot process data properly. Its the same case with news. The problem is with viewer not presenter who gets carried by the glitz and glamour. So its an issue present every where hollywood is simply successful in it.

So the real problem is jealousy because Hollywood and CNN do it so much better than everybody else who want to do the same? Well, being a leader is not easy, so it is not USA's problem to solve but others.

Let's compare the way to make a movie in Hollywood, the UK, Sweden and Australia.

Making a movie require a heck lot of budget, in most other country (like Sweden or Israel) they are government controlled and government funded, in Sweden, almost all movie/TV producer are closely related to SVT (Swedish version of BBC) and the only other competition in Sweden is TV4.

However, to make a proper movie with proper budget in the UK, assuming you do not have big production company backing, you have 2 sources, either pitch your idea to BBC (Which is government owned) or you can go applied the BFI (British Film Institute) Grant, which the grant money is coming from UK Lottery. So, basically, unless you have a spare 3 million pound or so to make a modest budget movie, both choices you got are controlled by the government.

In Australia, a similar system is in place, where the federal and state government have an "Screen" Collaboration to fund movie, all the script and material have to be pre-approved by either Screen Australia or its state counterpart (Screen NSW for example) before movie are putting into production.

In Hollywood, you don't sell your movie script to the government, US government do not finance film for public viewing (They do finance film that were to be made into Public Service Announcement, which would be produced by PBS via public funding) Any movie being produce must have it own source. Either they are privately funded (like from rich people), production company funded, or even religiously funded.

That is the reason why most independent film are coming from the US and you can find religion institute like Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saint (LDS - a.k.a Mormon Church) can fund Hollywood movie at will. Effectively, the Government of Australia contribute to 80% of funding the Australian Movie Industry, the BFI merely above 60% while the US government have less than 20% influence to Hollywood.

Conglomerates are owned by stockholders, that is all of us.

In wiki, you can click on the conglomerates and see who is CEO etc. It is very mixed, actually. If you bother to research it, rather than form an opinion beforehande, based on prejudice.
