Is hiring children as domestic workers okay?

Every law is situational, and some times exceptions can be made according to common sense by analysing the situation.

Depends on every country, in some countries and in some families the children are breadwinners. If you stop the child to work, then the whole family will starve to death. I know it is wrong and very heartbreaking to see children especially very young ones to work hard, but reality in our world is very harsh.

Thank you for your kinds words, although I am sure a lot of members (and mods) here will disagree vehemently with what you said.

Back to the topic: What are you views on the form of apprenticeship called the "chota" used to train children in a trade, for example being a mechanic or a machine tool operator?

My views, are that, ALL kids [Boys and girls] must finish year 12 and then there shall be a comprehensive internship program which must be regulated through a legal framework to train kids who can't attend Universities. Kids shall receive,a legally valid document which allows them to work as qualified tradesmen as well as enables them to attend a University at a later stage and should get exemptions based on their prior learning and experience.

Most of the Chota culture is born out of impotent govt policies because they have never regulated it. Trust me i have spoken to many Chotas who have been sexually assaulted on routine basis, verbally abused, physically punished, developed drug dependency, and they are paid nothing or too little for a job that was too harsh for their physical age.

I personally thing that the blue color are the real backbone of a society and therefore i want a formal legislation which binds all business to register a business name and tax number. They should be financially subsidized in order to take interns and then there should be a body that should test the candidates on the job on regular basis prior to issuing a ticket to work as a tradesman.

It is not impossible, all it takes is good governance and an establishment which is capable of strategic planning and has a framework for investing in citizens of that country. In my naive opinion, the strongest economy is an economy based on human capital and innovation. That is my dream of a future Pakistan.

Wrong, if this is the case then the elected govt of that country should be burnt to death for not providing financial support for such families. One child laborer is one too many !

That is such a travesty of all norms of a civilized society, and truly horrific and saddening in an Islamic country such as Pakistan.

Child labor is definitely wrong, I don't even think that can be up for debate. The likelihood fo a child laborer being successful in adulthood is statistically very low.

Personally I would want my son to work as soon as he is ready. It would be good for his self-development and he would gain world experience. Education is the first priority, but a little hard work is nothing to be upset about.

If a child is not taught strong work ethics then he will become a mummy daddy bacha. Most Indians I know in the US have mummy daddy kids, because they baby their children too much.

Like I said, child labor without regulations is completely wrong, but children should work.

Its unfortunate but not all children have the option to 'not work'. If a child does have to work, the hours and conditions have to be within reason of course - say 4 hours a day + meals + time to study.
What really p1sses me off are people in middle class who have servants. WTF for? Id be ashamed if I need someone around the house to clean up after me, my pride would be in the gutter.

That is entirely different discussion to talk about the rulers, their policies and how they are and how to be dealth with. But a family with no one to support cant wait for the elected gov to be burnt to death and then have another gov to look after them-if they are lucky. Their most priority will be to survive. I know it is very harsh, but there is no any other way.

Whenever i go to Pakistan, i help give free tuition to kids that work on brick mills, clean toilets while the fatass ugly ladies do makeup and indulge in endless chatter. I hear their stories that break me apart. Child labor is the worst form of molestation, ever invented. It pisses me off even more when i know that these kids of school age are the future of Pakistan, if they keep cleaning toilets, making bricks, collecting rubbish, feeding animals, selling boiled eggs then there is never going to be a Harvard in Pakistan and no such thing as a Pakistani dream would ever be possible. Therefore those who think its okay to have child laborers must get a shaft !

That responsibility lies on the parents just as much as the state. It's the parents that are wilfully sending their children to earn money instead of sending them to school. First of all we need to correct the public school and health systems, then we need to grant some pocket money to these children as an incentive for them to attend school and for their parents to send them to school. Finally we should ensure that these children, once off the school are provided reasonable jobs.......on merit.

NO.

A thousand times no man.

Raise your voice wherever you see child workers.

And do not patronize such places which employ child workers.

We need to break this vicious cycle of certain sections procreating recklessly in order to raise a revenue stream in-house.
