Bangladesh officially is secular Islamic country. Islam is state religion and its one of the principle is secularism.

Bangladeshis are 90% Muslims. 8% Hindus and 2% Tribals, Buddhists, Christians and Atheists. Most Muslim Bangladeshis are extremely religious people who dislike secularism and want Sharia to be country's law.

Hindu Bangladeshis are only 8% of the country. They are often suspected as more loyal to India than Bangladesh. Even though they are Bangladeshis but most of they have close relatives in Indian state of Bangla.

Bangladesh is not a secular country in true sense and had never been one ever in the history of the country. The country was part of undivided Bengal presidency of India. The people wanted Islamic Bengal so decided to join Pakistan. Islam is deeply rooted among Bangladeshis. Even if culturally the people don't seem like Islamic people but in reality Bangladeshis are very Islamic minded people. Secularism is hated here by most Bangladeshis.
