Is Bangladesh army is planning to acquire LY-60 air defence system?

No idea. Maybe simple error.
Well, if BD does acquire the LY-60 it wouldn't be bad, and would be a huge boost in addition to acquisition of LY-80. Best mission for LY-60 would be defense of airbases, army bases, and strategic targets what would be valuable for MAF to destroy.

I think the following system may be the best for BD taken into account the capabilities and a price that BD can afford:

1. Engagement envelope: 30m - 20km vertical and 3km to 50km missile range.

2. Number of simultaneous engaged targets: 4 but this can be increased to 12 by linking 3 batteries in "battalion-operation mode".

I would prefer this over the HQ-16ER as although it has less range(50km to 70km of the HQ-16ER), I do not think this is a major problem as 50km is still quite good and the ability to engage 12 targets simultaneously means that it will be very hard to "swarm".

I preferred this too back when I wrote BD layered air defense a few months back but BD is not getting it I think. Probably way cheaper than LY-80, and the missiles don't need full guidance because they have active radar on the missile itself.

It is also only 2 major vehicles(+service vehicles), and 6 launchers for a total of 24 missiles ready to fire, and reloads.

Can't believe this missile is based off SD-10/PL-12.

It make sense to base off the PL-12 as then it reduces cost of development massively.
A bit like how the 50km range ESSM is based of the original Sea Sparrow AAM.
Yeah, but the SLAMRAAM only reaches like 15-20 km so this is a huge improvement over that. I wish BD could have bought Sky Dragon 50 but it seems it is under the radar, and have no where near the same fame of HQ-16/LY-80.

You were right about the swarm subject.

Hmmm..

Only reason that I think the HQ-16ER may win out is that it is medium-long range system, and so BD being a small country in size could possibly not bother with a long-range SAM system if it brought that.

Looking at the expected cost of 80 million US dollars per battery, I think that 12 should suffice to protect the whole country and that comes to just under 1 billion US dollars - pretty much affordable for BD.

So you don't think BD needs HQ-9?

BD is so compact that I think that placing HQ-16ER around the major cities and military/economic targets will mean that threats can easily be within it's 70km range.
HQ-9 will be nice to have but not really necessary for a small country like BD. Much rather spend the money on a squadron of fighter planes as they are more versatile.

Are you 100% sure that BD is even getting the ER version and not the LY-80 40km version?

They exported it to Pak recently I think.

Yeah you are right.

I still think that only the 70km HQ-16 makes sense as otherwise the Sky Dragon 50 is far better value and has 10km extra range to boot.

Little surprised why Pakistan even brought the 40km version!

@UKBengali
Morocco has already purchased the system for air defense which is a good development considering Morocco is facing very real threats from Spain, and Algeria.
