  • Imran Khan warns of "never-ending" war on terror.
  • PTI chief asks govt to ensure better ties with Afghans.
  • "Ministers are issuing irresponsible statements."
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan Tuesday berated the coalition government for issuing "irresponsible statements" against the Taliban-led Afghan administration and stressed cooperation with the neighbouring nation.

Islamabad has repeatedly raised concerns over Kabul's harbouring of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militants and not implementing its promise of ensuring that its soil is not used for terrorism.

TTP has ended the ceasefire with Pakistan and increased terror activities across the country, leaving several people dead and scores injured, despite the government's "zero-tolerance" policy.

"Ministers are issuing irresponsible statements that they are planning to attack Afghanistan; if the Afghan government stops cooperation with [Pakistan], then we will have a never-ending war on our hands," Khan told a seminar, which he addressed via video link from Lahore.

Khan, who was ousted as the prime minister in April, had advocated for the world to engage with the Taliban administration and not isolate them or it would lead to not only regional, but global consequences.

The PTI chief said the coalition government was not focusing on talks with its Afghan counterpart and that Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari's first foreign trip should have been to the war-torn neighbouring country.

The former prime minister said military operations "never" bear fruit and they are part of peace agreements, as he reiterated that the government should engage with the Taliban to avoid terror activities on Pakistani soil.

"We had a golden opportunity when America left Afghanistan; we tried to better our ties with the Ashraf Ghani government as best as we could and decided not to intervene in Afghan affairs," he said.

But once the Taliban took over, Khan also kept engaging with them, and he said that "Pakistan helped evacuate foreigners from Afghanistan".

'Ending corruption'

Slamming the "imported government" for the rising terror incidents, he said that during his tenure, the National Security Committee (NSC) had divided to support the tribal areas, but the current regime did not focus on them.

"These people [current rulers] are focusing on ending their corruption cases. They have not focused on the economy," he said, claiming that due to the government's policies, there has been a rise in terrorism.

The PTI chief said that controlling the borders is the federal government's responsibility and noted that "I had already said that when you can't control your economy, you cannot control terrorism".

Ex-PM Khan added that the police do not stand a chance against the terrorists due to their weapons. "Terrorists are equipped with modern weapons that the US left behind."

The nation of 220 million people is facing a rise in terrorism from the last few months, with the NSC — the top body on security and foreign policy — stressing that "terrorists are enemies of Pakistan".

The TTP regrouped in Afghanistan after the Taliban's takeover, with Pakistan repeatedly asking the interim government in the neighbouring country to ensure that its soil isn't used for terrorism. But the Taliban-led government has not been able to live up to the expectations.

The activities of militants have been mainly focused in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with the former accounting for 31% of the attacks in the last year and the latter 67%, according to stats provided by Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah.

In its annual report, the Center for Research and Security Studies (CRSS) said that Pakistan saw as many as 376 terror attacks in the last year. A majority of these attacks were claimed by banned terror outfits such as TTP, Daesh, and the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA).

Quite irresponsible to threaten with never-ending war on Pakistani soil over a ministerial exchange of words as some would say brotherly squabble.

Afghanistan's interim government is still date not accepted through Pakistan's Prime Minister office.

America left Afghanistan as victorious as she entered it.

. .
Imran Khan is right and Pak can't afford to fight this never ending war.
US/Nato spent trillions of dollars in the 20 years iin Afghanistan in the
end they had to find a politicial solution.

The Americans want Pakistan to fight the Taliban and they are using PDM to
push Pak Army into a never ending war. Then Pak can forget about fighting
India.

. .
As much as I like Imran Khan but his Afghan policy was a complete disaster. As much as we want to blame other institutions for the recent wave of terrorism, PTI is equally responsible for all this.

. .
I find it extremely shocking and unthinkable he said that. more shocking will be some PTI diehard actually justifying and defending something so absurd
Unfortunately many of IKs statements are best left as philosophical musings rather than ground realities of the people they face. His approach is correct that one cannot antagonize the Taliban government - but that doesn’t mean kinetic operations in Afghanistan don’t continue.

Basically do what the US did to Pakistan with the Taliban - constantly keep saying “do more”, say nice things about them as well while basically blowing up anyone suspected of being TTP or supporting them too.
So a Salala on them and then feign it as a TTP attack that Pakistan went after.

to be fair, GHQ was also on the same page on that
Gen Faiz Specially during his tenue as DG ISI and as Corps commander Peshawar is blamed for his very soft stance for TTP.
which resonated with pacifist Imran Khan who has always advocated negotiation with TTP.
that all aside, we been played by Afghan Taliban, they made us believe that they will be more understanding and helpful in getting help re TTP but in the end they just shrugged and said that TTP exists in Pakistan and best they can do is facilitate in talks with TTP inside Afghanistan. hence we sent Clerics in C-130s.

Afghan Taliban are ideological brothers of TTP, they are very soft towards them. Afghan Taliban may not at this point harm Paksitan directly but they wont go out of their way to hunt down their TTP brothers.

if anyone (from whatever political discourse in Pakistan ) thinks Afghan Taliban are different and friends to Pakistan then just look at countless border skirmishes with Pakistan where they have killed Pakistani civilians not all of these encounters are the mistake of our military. it will be extremely shameful attitude to side with someone else just because your political hatred dictates that you curse and blame your army.

Nothing has changed.

Changing any institutional culture is difficult. One that has so much power and people and patronage - almost impossible.

.
As I said, keep this guy as far as possible from any security related policies.

He already wants to flood the country with Afghani maniacs who terrorise locals and refuse to integrate. It's like asking yourself to be invaded and for terrorism.

I have been saying this for many years, Pakistan should start supporting different factions of Afghan Taliban and other Tajiks and Uzbeks to always keep them in check. The ultimate solution would be a buffer zone without that you can never have peace with them.

The only thing that keeps Afghans united is their hate for Pakistan and Pakistani Punjabis and it will never go away. You will have to make them respect you by using sheer force.

They hate anyone non-Pashtun, sometimes they don't mind Balochs either but in Balochistan they larp as Baloch claiming they are Baloch.

But some of them even hate Pakistani Pashtuns, I've seen them claim that they are not fully Pashtun and they just assimilated with the culture, they even advocate for their genocide sometimes alongside the Panjabis/Sindhis/etc.

What a clown

The Afghans themselves want to fight you since 1947 and they claim it openly but you're bitching out looking for excuses to not defend yourself

There's not going to be any real conflict with India since both sides have nukes anyway
