Conducting this operation whilst a small IS part remains has a good reason, now the US/global powers cannot simply abandon Baghdad if they decide to side with Kurds, although they didn't side with Kurds.

Seems that SAA and Iraqi forces will make a double sandvich in future,
the delivered 3000 trucks to PKK/YPG will be "Ganimet" .

Now the truth is Iraq barely used heavy weaponry so far, no TOS-1 or air force / attack helicopters that took part. Imagine if Kurds possessed these weapons what they would've done so far.
