My understandig is that, the situation in Iraq and Pakistan is totally diffferent. The success of the surge in Iraq might not work in Pakistan. For Pakistan different strategy might work but there is no gurantee. We have to remember that, Pakistan is militarily strongest Islamic country of 150 million mostlu muslim with nuclear arsenal and most Pakistanis are devout muslim. In Iraq Ipro-Iranian Shias ruling the country under protection from western forces led by the USA.

Pro Iranians Shias need the protection of U.S. forces to consolidate their power base, until that happens they won't agree U.S.led forces to leave their country. We have to remember that Iraq will become the second most powerful Shia led government on Earth after Iran. Iraqi Shias are happy that they are well protected and backed by U.S. forces to consolidate their power and strength as well as Iran is their closest neighbour. If Iran becomes a nuclear nation like Pakistan the whole situation will be different from now.In that case Iraqi Shias will urge the western forces to end their military presence.

What will happen if US led western forces leave Iraq in near future still unknown and unpredictable to most of us. How Iran will be engaged to protect the Shia led government in absense of western forces remains to be seen.

If we compare the situatiion in Pakistan with Iraq we find more difficult situation there. Pakistan is a complex country with nuclear bomb. If ever radicals take control of that country the entire situation will be difficult to handle by the western powers.

Therefore Pakistan should be handled by the western powers carefully.
