I'm not sure if this is true, Iraq's 1990-2003 embargo was a UN one worldwide, not just US and was far heavier I believe as it restricted food, medicine and forced the country to accept the oil for food program.

I'm not underestimating Iran's achievements, but sanction wise it's not the same level. There's still international airlines flying to Iran etc.

Iraq's 90s sanctions were a full isolation of the country, North Korea level. It's because US sanctions aren't UN SC sanctions
