Iran's economy is expected to shrink by six percent this year and inflation could reach 40 percent, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) forecasts, as the country copes with the impact of tighter U.S. sanctions.

Washington reimposed sanctions on Iran's oil exports in November following the U.S. withdrawal from a 2015 nuclear accord.

On April 21, the White House said it had decided not to renew exemptions from U.S. sanctions to buyers of Iranian oil in an effort to cut Iran's vital oil exports to zero.

Jihad Azour, IMF Middle East and Central Asia director, said on April 29 that the projection preceded the latest elimination of waivers -- meaning the situation could get even worse.

"Clearly the re-imposition of sanctions and the removal of the waivers will have additional negative impact on the Iranian economy both in terms of growth and in terms of inflation, where inflation could reach 40 percent or even more this year," Azour said.

Azour was quoted by the AFP news agency as saying that sanctions have already pushed inflation in Iran to around 50 percent.

Earlier this month, a U.S. official said that U.S. sanctions have denied Tehran more than $10 billion in oil revenue.

This is very true. I had a very interesting chat with a Iranian who had just come back from visit to see his family in Tehran. He said inflation was eating into everything. The poor were now facing incredible hardship and the regime has lost widespread support. There is widespread corruption and disdain for the mullahs who are seen as parasites. People say "look at their hands" they are smooth like baby hands because they do not have to work hard like rest of the population. The regime is only able to rule via security apparatus etc. While this was anecdotal and only from one person i felt what he said reflected with what I haf read.

Moving forward Trump, Saudia and UAE [with Israel cheering them on] will strangle Iran with oil sanctions. It will indeed be interesting how things play out and if the regime can cope with what is coming down the road.

Many diaspora Iranians are not fond of the IRI, but you have many who oppose the regime but are apolitical for good reasons as some own property well kind off as sanctions skirting has hefty fines here or have family but Iran has had heavy handed sanctions since 1979 went through trench war fare with Iraq through out the 1980s then the whole sanctions mantra I really think Iranian survival rests on the geo-political trends of the region the more Saudi gets bogged down in Yemen Iran gains Saudis does the same thing more Iran gets bogged down in Syria Saudi gains its never ending quick sand for both arrogant fools tho I have a pro Iranian tilt I rather see a balance of ties so we dont see our a...ses burned by their foolish chessboard games in our backyard Iran also has cordial ties with Turkey, CARs so it can cushion the impact a bit the tone down of words of Pakistan also helps out

The mullahs care more about themselves than their fellow countrymen. Time for the mullahs to rejoin the world of nations in peace. Time to give up their dreams of Shia mastery of the world and their hatred of Jews.

Lesson for the world from the USA:

If you develop nukes like North Korea, Trump will bend over and kiss your *** all day. They'll even pay for medical treatment for US citizens that die from interrogation in North Korea.

On the other hand, if you DON'T develop nukes like Iran, prepare to be sanctioned to hell at every single opportunity. Or prepare to be invaded based on lies and falsehoods like Iraq.

The reformist Iranian Government bet on the goodwill of the USA under Obama... they bet that the USA would live up to their promises.

So on this thread you're barking against shias while on the other you barked against sunnies and while it is the Jews who are full of hatred and divide the world in jews & gentiles

That’s a pretty interesting catch, brother.

Promoting sectarianism on both sides. What is his agenda I wonder?

Well he is a Yankee what you expect I rather see neo-Condederates break up the USA and see this boomer jack a..s cry but in reality we are far away from that and the old geezer would be dead by that time eh

that's the price you will have to pay when you stand up against dajjal. be an ally of dajjal and the worldly treasures will be awaiting for you and oppose him and face starvation. but his river of fire will actually will be cold water and his river of cold water will be fire in reality. testing time for believers but majority of the muslims today neither have the knowledge nor have the faith and will to take up the challenge. they are trying to get into his river which appears to be cold water but in reality it is the opposite.
