Iran's Economy News

IRAN DAILY 4 January- Iran is the fourth-largest producer of cement in the world with an annual production capacity of 70 million tons, secretary of the Association of Cement Industrialists announced.

“At present, with a cement production capacity of 70 million tons [per year], Iran is the world’s fourth largest producer of cement after China, India and the United States,” said Abdolreza Sheikhan, worldcement.com reported.

Sheikhan noted that Iran will become the world’s third biggest cement producer, when its 75-million-ton nominal capacity becomes its actual capacity.

Iran is projected to increase its cement output to 75 million tons and export 12 million tons by March 2014.

Iran exported cement to 24 countries, including Iraq, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Pakistan, Qatar, Turkey, the UAE, Georgia, Oman, India and China, in the last Iranian year (ended March 20, 2013).

The country plans to boost its cement output to 85 million tons by the end of the next Iranian year (to start March 21).

Iran ranks first in cement production and exports in the Middle East. Because of its high quality, Iranian cement has a good market among neighboring countries.

Availability of raw materials, skilled workforce, indigenization of technologies, high quality and low price are among the advantages of Iranian cement industry.

Currently, Iran produces 27 types of cement. Those involved in this industry believe that to expand export markets, Iran should facilitate trade, establish a preferential tariff system and help activate export organizations.

Last year, Iran exported 13.648 million tons of cement and clinker. Of the figure, 63 percent pertained to Iraq.

Today is 30th June 2015, so the figure for whole year of 2015 is forecast, not yet realized, isn't it?
The latest actual data is, 280 tons in 2014, isn't it?

So many uncertainties, so it may or may not happen, isn't it?

The cement capacity in India ...
What is the relevance of bringing india into this thread?
Is india (0.22 ton per capita; 2014 Statista.com) a benchmark for Iran (1.00 ton per capita) cement industry?

Why so feisty? Just it is weird bringing india into this thread, why?

Jealous & butthurt apply to someone who has less than the other.
Did you check numbers, both absolute & per capita?
In that case, obviously india is jealous & butthurt.
On per capita basis, india is jealous & butthurt of Iran, Turkey and many other countries as well.

You are talking as if chinese never troll and always stick to topics !

Oh! So your purpose of bringing india into the thread all of a sudden was trolling?
Alright, but with pathetic per capita figure, how to troll?

Don't get over emotional dude,I have seen many Chinese members doing the something so don't judge

Both are tied at 4th.

Cement production and consumption is one of the indicators of infrastructure development and growth.
No, despite huge Turk cement growth Iran produced 80 million tonnes last year based on its OFFICIAL source and not a yellow up in the ash website!!

The "Cement Industry Employers Association" reports that:

Iran world’s top cement exporter in 2014

(Minews)
- Iran ranked first in cement exports worldwide by sending more than 19 million tons of cement overseas last year, says Morteza Lotfi, the vice president of Cement Industry Employers Association.

Speaking on the sidelines of the Second International Cement Industrial Exhibition: Market, Export, Equipment, and Environment, the official went on to say that Iran had a 7-percent share in the 4.1 billion tons of cement produced worldwide in 2014 while China accounted for 50% of the total.

Lotfi noted that domestic cement production currently stands at 80 million tons per annum and stressed the importance of the private sector's involvement in the economy.

"The association is still powerless to manage its own affairs including pricing its products, while President Hassan Rouhani has repeatedly called on the government to relinquish some authority to the private sector," ISNA quoted him as saying.

Jalal Saffarzadeh, a veteran player in the cement industry, who was also present at the exhibition, said 85% of equipment in cement industry, including steel gears and rails, are now manufactured by local producers.

"Cement production has soared to 230,000 tons a day from 100 tons in 1993s," he said.

Nearly 250 million tons of cement were traded across the world in 2014. Pakistan and Turkmenistan, among other CIS countries, are the main target export markets for the Iranian cement, besides Afghanistan and Iraq, although cement export to Iraq has somewhat ebbed away due to insecurity and political situation in the Arab country.

Pointing out that a number of cement industries in the country have obtained 'Green Industry Certificates', Lotfi commended the industry's compliance with environment regulations and said all of the manufacturing units in the country are monitored by environment office, and have pollution rates lower than the global benchmarks.

Last month, secretary of the Cement Industry Employers Association, Abdolreza Sheykhan announced that cement would soon be offered at Iran Mercantile Exchange's export trading floor.

Cement manufacturers believe offering products on IME's export trading floor will help increase prices since there is no price restriction unlike in the domestic market. The absence or presence of cement on the export trading floor has long caused challenges for manufacturers. Although the domestic trading floors have, on numerous occasions, expressed readiness to admit cement, the cement industry seems to be unwilling to do so, preferring to remain on the export trading floor.

The cement industry suffered from recession in the construction sector over the past Iranian year. The manufacturers' attempts to remain active on the export trading floor comes as domestic producers can be blamed for decrease in prices, as many smaller producers who were not strong enough to enter big markets reduced their prices to be able to compete in the domestic market.
Experts believe when supply exceeds demand, it is the best time to be listed in the equity market so that equilibrium will be restored in the cement market. This way, cement prices will no longer be set imperatively.

The TCMA reported that in the first 11 months of 2014, cement production fell by 2.41% year-on-year to 65.2Mt, while clinker production grew by 2.92% to 56.5Mt.2 Given that 4.56Mt of cement was produced in December 2013, Turkey’s cement production for the entirety of 2014 is unlikely to have exceeded 70Mt. This is significantly less than the United States Geological Survey’s (USGS) estimated 75Mt of cement production in 2014.3 Turkey lost out on being the fourth-largest cement producer in 2014

Excellent news! Iran needs to work on becoming a large producer for electrical and hybrid cars. Iran produces 1.6 million cars etc annulay. This figure needs to increase and their engines need to be electrical or hybrid. By the way, does anyone know what happened to that car plant that was being made which would have total capacity of build 5 million vehicles a year? @scythian500 bro, any info?

This is a hybrid car Iran has already build. It's basically Runa with a hybrid engine:

The new company will be the Estelahan "Ghotbe Sevom"... There were talks to relocate the whole project to Mashhad due to the availability of part builders in Khorasan and creating more petrochemical and steel industries on the beach of Jask and Chabahar in sistan va balouchestan... but then Khameni interfered finally and it is going to be like this:

Sistan va Balouchestan will be the host region for both this new Car manufacturing complex and Petro and Steel industry complexes. Mr. Khameni is determent to develop the under developed Sistan and Balouchestan through installing new heavy industries in that province. There will be a big aluminum factory, a big steel factory, two petrochemical and refinaries and many more dependent sub-industries in that area.

The new car company is decided to start producing new (2015/2016) models of Hyundai and one Chinese company. Their models will be in the price range of Samand and Pride so it stimulate other two giants to fix their incompetency and move their ashes faster..!!

The first goal is to create a powerful competitor for IKCO and SAIPA... The second goal is to benefit the main land citizens with high quality yet affordable cars... The third goal is to develop that region... This strategic development plans are a follow up of the main "Makran-Jask" long term development plan.

%30 of all produced cars will be exported under the mother company brand. %70 will flow into Iranian main land. The investors are private sector + Hyundai and a Chinese company (SAIC or Geely). The hopes are high for this company as it will be a private money that seeks profit and competition.

There is nothing mentioned about 5 million cars... It is so unreal that number!!

The infrastructure job has already started by employing companies like Khatam Al Anbiya engineering group + Iranian Navy and IRCG navy + a concersium of public and private companies... These companies will build the necessary modern infra from Makran to Jask.

The infra consists of a coastal highway system, a rail road system with connections to each and every major factory, building new towns next to the projects for future staff of these industries, two additional power plants, two small freight airports in Jask and Makran and a big international one in Chabahar, New Science and Tech parks, Three new ports (two small ones and one big Chabahar that Chinese are busy with at the moment), all related utility needs for these industries and people who will live next to them...

the car complex comprises of 10 phases and its first phase must be started by end of 2016 (which I guess will be postponed!). The car complex will employ 20000 employees directly and many more indirectly. The site is only 4 kms away from the famous ancient TISS city. This is why the name of the brand will be TISCO or TISSCO.

The CEO of this complex promised people to deliver high quality cars with affordable prices...

Mr. Khameni is so determent on these projects that gave the executives an ultimatum to not waiting for Sanctions to be lifted and speed the process now with local companies.

This project must have been done decades ago as that region is very strategic and have unique advantages. In a nutshell, I say, it will work out soon if it is followed firmly by the leader personally and it will fail its targets if let into hands of ever-changing governments.... I believe if this plans are finished in even 10 to 15 years then Iranian economy will have a big boost.

Khameni has received these plans so seriously that he insisted to put it into the 6th National Strategic Development Plan that has just put into action yesterday... I have seen the emphasize on these Makran to Jask projects in the "Barnamye tose, eye 6om"... for the first time, Khameni himself urged the government to seek for foreign investors for these specific projects...

@scythian500 Dadash, thank you for the informative post. I would have given you a positive ref if I could.
The reason why I said 5 million is because that is the number that had been stated. Here, look at links:

Iran’s largest car plant to be set up - AzerNews

there was another link from mehr news, but I cant find it.
Yes, they mentioned it..but It is most likely an exaggerated or wrongly translated piece of news... Maybe they have the plan to increase the total production of all Iranian companies to 5 millions in 2050!! This is not a small number... u know!!
