U.S. military officials are concerned that Iran's support for Houthi rebels in Yemen could spark a confrontation with Saudi Arabia and plunge the region into sectarian war.

Iran is sending an armada of seven to nine ships — some with weapons — toward Yemen in a potential attempt to resupply the Shia Houthi rebels, according to two U.S. defense officials.
Officials fear the move could lead to a showdown with the U.S. or other members of a Saudi-led coalition, which is enforcing a naval blockade of Yemen and is conducting its fourth week of airstrikes against the Houthis.

Iran sent a destroyer and another vessel to waters near Yemen last week but said it was part of a routine counter-piracy mission.

What's unusual about the new deployment, which set out this week, is that the Iranians are not trying to conceal it, officials said. Instead, they appear to be trying to "communicate it" to the U.S. and its allies in the Gulf.

IF Iran does actually try to re-supply the Houtis, it could backfire very badly in their face.

not sure how it would cause the U.S concern this is KSA problem

let's not forget GCC is fighting a war against the U.S shale industry.

I wonder how high oil would skyrocket if KSA and Iran got into a shooting war and a few tankers and refiners are blown up.

that would be a concern for the whole world.

Good luck iran , but this ain't a response to the houthi whatever , iran is infacting responding to two of her youth being s by the saudi airport police , if you followed the media carefully you'de find this is the case

Stupid pathetic Mullahs!!!

Why the f* can't they just concentrate on their own progress at home and improve the lives of their own people instead of triggering wars everywhere in the Muslim world and hence taking everyone down?

Ultimately it is Irani Mullahs and House of Saud who are to be blamed for almost all the wars in the Middle East.

Don't shout at Iran for a news that isn't verified.

If Iran was going to send arms to Houthis, it wouldn't send them so brazenly to Yemen in such a situation.

Perhaps they are being brazen about it. As the article mentioned, they are sending a message.

They wouldn't. They are calling for Peace Talks. Several times they have mentioned their 4 Points for peace. Apparently, they have been talking to other countries to push for ceasefire & dialogue.

And then they would go and do something completely opposite?

Iran knows that Saudi is looking desperately for any evidence to use against Iran. Up to now there has been nothing (for example, what happened to those two "Iranian guys" that were supposedly captured last week?). The world, as reported by the news, is skeptical about Saudis claims about Iran arming the Houthis, and even the US privately thinks that Iran's influence is minimum with Houthis.

So, Iran will put itself in a situation where the ships are captured and harms both its standing & the Houthis standing in Yemen?

Shale Industry makes up a very tiny percentage of U.S GDP

true, but the shale/tight oil industry does employ 10,000s of direct jobs and many more times indirect jobs, and it's about being self sufficient in energy security.

indeed , unless the price reaches the point of no profit and the industry starts to drastically decrease
low oil prices are good for the economy as US doesn't even export any of it.

I doubt it iran will try to calm things down so the deal with the west will go without problems.
but the real question is will the west and GCC alliance be as it was in the future ?

. .
Wait and see!!
You still didn't answer, my question! The Saud and their coalition can't , they can barely fly and their navy can't get away from the coast from fear to be lost a sea..The US have never attacked a country that know how to defend itself or a country that can bring war to them...
Nobody will stop them..
