What kind of vessels does Iraq posses at the moment?
Only patrol vessels armed with guns no bigger than 30 mm. Iraq has very limited access to the Persian Gulf, so countering smuggling (which is the stated aim of the exercise) is the most they can do.

I'm sure they would be interested in Iran's fast attack boats. That's a quick and cheap way of boosting their naval power.

These 2 are the largest ships

60 meter ships with 30mm guns. They planned for a larger ship with 76mm oto melera gun but IS problem delays that.

Given the narrow coastline Iraq's navy will never be large, for iraq the real 'attack' force for naval targets has always been through the air force, like the USS stark attack.

Iran could probably supply the Fajr-27, which is Iran's copy of the Oto Melera. I suppose it is cheaper as well.

I don't think they'd make much use of even our FAC like the Sina class boats. As ULKU said, the only way Iraq can realistically fight ships is with airpower.

That's great news. What kind of vessels does Iraq posses at the moment? I understand most of Iraq's navy was destroyed during the last tow wars.

I think it's about time Iran & Iraq start joint Military & R&D projects!

For now Iran can build Mowj Class frigates, Sina Class FAC & Ghadir Class Midget Sub's for Iraq http://www.mindexcenter.ir/products-category/marine

Iran & Iraq can start R&D in developing more advanced equipment together in joint ventures & build joint Naval facilities!

Iraq's coastline is extremely small, they cannot maintain a large navy because their ports are vulnerable in their position.

Iranian Navy logistics vessel undergoing repairs in Durban

The Iranian naval logistics vessel Bushehr is currently undergoing unspecified repairs at a shipyard in Durban.

Bushehr and the destroyer Alvand arrived at the east coast port on 15 November following a port visit in Tanzania on 29 October to mark completion of a counter-piracy tasking off the Horn of Africa and the Gulf of Aden before departing for South Africa. In February 2016, Alvand met with the South African Navy frigate SAS Spioenkop at the International Fleet Review hosted by India.

Bushehr has been taken to Dormac Dock 1, an 8 500 ton floating dock taken into service last year. Some Durban port watchers maintain the Iranian navy vessel was the first platform to use the new addition to Dormac’s range of ship repair facilities. Gary Pulford, Dormac marketing manager, told defenceWeb he was not at liberty to divulge any details of exactly what repairs were being undertaken or how long the Bushehr would remain at the new floating dock facility.

The visit of the two Iranian warships to South Africa late last year was part of a lead-up to the signing of a memorandum
of understanding (MoU) on defence co-operation between Iran and South Africa. It was formalised by Iranian Defence Minister Brigadier General Hossein Dehghan and his South African counterpart, Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula, on December 13.
