Well nuclear propulsion is nice and nobody can argue with that but it has a limit and that is the size of submarine. A nuclear submarine if wanted to still be silentneeds to be big .
AndIts right that having big subs are a must for a blue water navy . but won't forget immediate threat against us is not by countries in a galaxy far far away . we also need a brown water navy to defend ourselves and for that we need subs that are smaller than an optimal nuclear sub . and again for them diesel engines are just good enough for them we need to invest on other systems like what Germany used in type 212 or Italy used in torado.

A diesel electric sub about the size of a German Type-209 is more than sufficient even if a cheaper Iranian version has only half the armaments, dive capability & range of a type-209 that's still 10,000km max range, 4 torpedo tubes & 7-8 Torpedo's or cruise missiles and that's more than sufficient! Not to mention the fact that an accident or the destruction of a nuclear sub in a war in and around the Persian gulf could have saver implications for marine life that southern parts of our own country depends on!

And even for R&D purposes for vessels out at sea I'd like to see Iran be a bit more innovative than outdated nuclear sub technology regardless of the costs!​

Both Hydrogen & Oxygen are highly combustible so I believe "THE BEST" fuel for any sea fairing vessel that could potentially give you unlimited range is NOT nuclear power but rather sea water that will have no harmful byproducts! Unless your building a rover to send to Mars Nuclear propulsion is overrated

Iran should work towards developing some kind of catalyst or nano particles that would allow you to separate the Hydrogen & Oxygen in sea water at a fast pace with a manageable amount of electricity & work towards building various combustible engines & at the same time work towards building BLDC engines of various sizes

I believe this is why air independent propulsion is important.

In 2013, while on the way to participate in naval exercises in U.S. waters, the German Navy's U-32 established a new record for non-nuclear submarines with 18 days in submerged transit without snorkelling.It also got through all the defences of a U.S. carrier strike group, unseen, and shot green simulation torpedos at the carrier.

Yea, can't remember which thread here that we previously talked about this AK-630 image.

Given the information available, Iran mostly certainly got its hands on at least 1 AK-630 via the ex-Iraqi Bogomal-class patrol vessel.

Whether that is what is shown in the images or a reverse-engineered version of the AK-630, is less than certain. All we know is that Iran had the opportunity and time necessary to do so. Whether they actually chose to do so, remains to be confirmed.

Sahand', will be launched in the next Iranian year (to start on March 21, 2018).

Deputy Commander of the Iranian Army for Coordination Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari announced that the country's most state-of-the-art destroyer, 'Sahand', will be launched in the next Iranian year (to start on March 21, 2018).
"Sahand will join the Navy next year," Rear Admiral Sayyari, Iran's former Navy commander, was quoted as saying by the Iranian media on Tuesday.

He added that a new missile-launching warship named 'Separ (Shield)' will join the Navy on December 4.

Rear Admiral Sayyari also said that the Navy experts are now working on a new destroyer named 'Shiraz' which will be launched after Sahand.

In relevant remarks last Wednesday, New Commander of the Iranian Navy Rear Admiral Hossein Khanzadi announced the country's plans to launch a new home-made missile-launching warship.

"The missile-launching warship named Separ will be launched in the Caspian Sea" on the occasion of the Navy Day in Iran (November 28), Rear Admiral Khanzadi told reporters in his first press conference after being appointed to the post in Tehran.

He also announced that a number of overhauled helicopters and vessels will join the Navy in the near future.

clearly the project has been slow because of bad project management but it is developing on a slow but steady pace!
