MAARS is an American-made and used remote control gunbot.

In the near future, when the Islamic Republic of Iran goes to war, it will do so accompanied by robotic soldiers, an Iranian general said earlier today. Reported in Iran’s state-owned Fars News Service, it’s a scary-sounding pronouncement about a fairly mundane technological advance.

If delivered as promised, the robots will carry machine guns and rockets and be remote controlled. The U.S. Army has experimented with armed robots like that for years, and last year, an American general said he expected robots to replace one-quarter of combat soldiers by the middle of the century.

And it’s not just technologically advanced militaries are doing this. In Syria in 2013, rebels against Assad’s government used a remote-control machine gun robot to look and shoot around corners without putting a human in harm's way. Right now, a group is crowdfunding a remote-control tank and turret forUkraine. 'Robot soldiers' is an ominous way of putting it, but remote-controlled guns on wheels are an increasingly common part of war.

Nobody in his/her true mind would give autonomy to an armed robot! The author is an idiot! The next thing we hear is that the robot was hacked into or manipulated by a virus and started killing friendly forces or even worth public!

weapon systems are expensive and are never made with make shift armies in mind..... I think if Iran can handle ISIL without so many expensive weapon systems. I also think ISIL is not why these weapons are being made, if it only for ISIL then it would be more useful

First of all try to be civil and understand what I said I will make it simpler for you. The robotic technology will always be non dependable because of the weaknesses it has in terms of jamming and EMPs. Jamming for a small detachment is enough to stop it receiving orders from its controllers. And EMPs would be for ARMY which means significant numbers. Rather then being sarcastic and over clever try and think of what is being said.This is a defence forum and the weaknesses of systems being pointed out is something that should be appreciated not laughed about.

Virtually anything can be "jammed" in a war zone . the reality is different . both sides have ECM and ECCM capabilities . both sides can engage in a Electronic warfare .

and EMP is for army ? what does that suppose to mean ? significant numbers ? EMPs can be delivered via 1- bombs 2- missiles which both cost probably 100 times the sentry gun

they need Fighters to be deployed . the question is : who will endanger it's fighters to destroy a sentry gun ?

You probably watch too many movies my dear . the easiest way to kill a sentry gun is not using EMP and Super duper techs . its with conventional methods like using Advanced anti-tank missiles , or a burst of high caliber - hence long range - machine gun .

Something that a terrorist group cannot pull (or at least cannot kill lots of them while the sentry gun can indeed take many of them down )

So yeah , the main targets of these babies are actually terrorist groups , but they can also be deployed in large numbers in a classic war

read the thread before you answer. I clearly pointed out Iran does not need any robotic army to fight these terrorists and it can manage them easily.

Yes but the technologically superior force will win in Electronic warface, your greatest enemies lead the world in electronic warfare

army signifies greater numbers, more then just a sentry drone or two. And as I said before there is no consideration of ISIL if you had read the thread you would have understood that. Other armies you might face do not care about the cost of war.
