Iran wins first medal at Rio 2016 Olympics

KIANOUSH ROSTAMI just got IRAN'S first medal!

And its GOLD!

Kianoush was competing in the 85 kg class Weightlifting. He lifted 179 kg in the Snatch, and 217 kg in the Clean and Jerk, beating his opponent by 1 kg and setting a NEW WORLD RECORD of 396 kg!

I also congratulate the Chinese and Romanian athletes Tiam Tao and Sincraian Gabriel on their Silver and Bronze medals respectively.

Wow congrats. I think Iran will definitely win more. Also, sports that Iran's good at are coming up so there's ample chance of winning more.

Meanwhile our athletes can't even qualify...

We were formidable in field hockey once and won medals in boxing and wrestling here and there. Simple issue is lack of funding etc. Same can be said about our other sports like squash, cricket etc. Unbeatable at one time and now look at us

.Well cricket-wise we are still no. 3 in tests and could possibly be no. 1 if we win this one but squash is beyond that level, at least for the time being.
