Iran unveils new Kowsar advanced jet trainer

picky! why?
we are under sanction
we all know moldovan mig-29s story.
they wanna buy but they can not. with US pressure they can't buy any thing.
and look at news there is some other new sanctions against any person sell iran heavy military devices (tanks airplanes...)
thats all we can do under sanctions

I don't believe this project ever reaches mass production. Optimistically they might make a squadron of them.

Air Force would rather wait till JPOA allows them to buy from Russia. Iran's Air Force seems pretty picky, they weren't even impressed by Chinese Fighters and China has been developing fighters for decades.
Airforce rejected shafaq (trainer version) and started his own project , Kowsar-88 is owj industries project and owj belongs to airforce itself !

Owj industries no longer belongs to IRIAF, it was merged with IAIO, Kowsar is an IAIO project.

Just because the Kowsar-88 was started doesn't mean it reaches mass production. At the pace it's going, it's obvious that this isn't a fast track priority project.

There is significant doubt that Iran could even get the supply chain right to be able to develop a fighter jet.

Furthermore, if Iran is serious about developing a fighter jet than the F-313 will be an indication. The F-313 so far is also on a slow track of development from what we have seen.

Kosar is an old project. It was announced maybe a couple years ago possibly longer can't remember. Yet there is only one prototype.

Iran doesn't seriously invest in its Air Force at this time. Air defense used to be the same way, but thankfully in the past decade alone Iran spent a lot of resources to bring that up to par.

Eventually Iran will turn its attention to airforce, but it requires significant capital investment.

Yes, one they showed, but we do not know if there are others to do static tests, or if there are other prototypes in different construction phases

yes thats true
this is the way (my guess)
they started with missiles (dumb) then electronics, upgrading some systems to understand how they work, radars air defense systems and after that the air force is the most possible next stage.
but the investment....
look at these pictures s200 upgrade and digitization in 90s
have you seen this?

Local or not, Iran urgently needs some modern jets. keeping Gripen C/D , F16 block50,Mig 29SMT/35 as a base requirement.

Yes true,
but if not to planes to train future pilots, what do you need the planes of the class you have indicated?

To avert any misadventure by hostile forces. If you are strong , they will have to suppress their desire to destroy you fearing possible repurcussions. Bro we live in very hostile and underdeveloped region of globe.
these are good jets to form bulk of any capable fighting force.

Yes, but you must always have new young pilots trained because those already experienced over the years grow old and often lose the physical conditions to fly with modern combat aircraft, to ensure the generational replacement of the pilots you need suitable aircraft and the Kowsar-88 can be a good option and moreover of Iranian production.
And, I am convinced that the Kowsar-88 can carry out other missions besides the training of the pilots, moreover it is a project completely made in Iran, so the technicians and engineers who designed and built it have all the data to expand the capacity of the project, for example: COIN aircraft, Light attack aircraft, or single-seater Light Combat Aircraft
