Iran to hold massive naval drill

.
Any thing big will be sitting duck , so Iran's knows they need fast and small size attack force to disturb oil flow during any war

Too late to play that one.

Construction of the 370 km Habshan – Fujairah oil pipeline in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, has been completed.

The 48 inch diameter pipeline will transport 1.5 MMbbl/d of oil from Abu Dhabi’s oil fields in the southwestern part of the UAE to Fujairah on the Emirates’ eastern coast, bypassing the congested Hormuz Strait.

Its the problem with making the same threat year after year people act to avoid the problem.

I think Iran needs some bigger destroyers and frigates, and in addition some bigger subs.
They have some, but their use is pretty much only for longer range missions in ~peaceful times, in the war NATO will destroy them pretty fast. However loads of small boats and subs is what Iran is aiming for.

Fair enough, except two things - its only UAE, how about others? Another point, if during war Iran decides to sabotage this pipe, they can easily do it.

Iran should have purchased more of those akula type subs from Russia. At this moment, it should deploy a huge number of anti-ship missiles and sams.

we have 18 midget subs (at least 4 are being added each year), 3 kilo class subs, 1 semi-heavy Iranian made sub (1000+ tons), a gizzalion small boats, frigates and then you add in the land based anti ship missiles... we're good.

No decision made yet to close Strait of Hormuz

Asked if the Navy has the capability to close the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most strategically important chokepoints which accounts for about 30% of the world’s seaborne oil shipments, Sayyari said that the strait is under the control of the Navy.

The Navy commander said the Navy and the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps have the capability to shut the Strait of Hormuz, but the decision on the issue rests with "our superiors."

He added, "No decision has been made in this regard yet."

MP Parviz Sorouri said on December 13 that Iran plans to hold a war game in the near future to practice its ability to close the strait.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ramin Mehmanparast stated on December 14 that Iran’s threat of closing the Strait of Hormuz is a response to the United States’ threats against the Islamic Republic.

Iran launches 10-day naval drill

In this exercise which began on Saturday, Iran's Navy will showcase naval forces' latest equipment, innovations and creativities.

Different classes of submarines, including Tareq and Ghadir, the newest ground-to-sea missile systems and torpedoes will be employed in the maneuvers.

Iran's Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari rejected reports about possible one-day closure of the Strait of Hormuz during the drill at a press conference on Thursday.

Sayyari added that although the Iranian forces are capable of accomplishing such a feat, the decision to close the Strait of Hormuz must be made by the leaders of the Islamic Republic's establishment.

Over the past years, Iran has made important breakthroughs in its defense sector and attained self-sufficiency in producing important military equipment and systems.

Iran has repeatedly clarified that its military might is merely based on the nation's defense doctrine of deterrence and poses no threat to other countries.
