Reuters) - Iran has supplied weapons and ammunition to Iraqi Kurdish forces, Kurdistan President Massoud Barzani said Tuesday at a joint press conference with Iranian foreign minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in Arbil, capital of Iraq's Kurdish region.

The direct arming of Kurdish forces is a contentious issue because some Iraqi politicians have said they suspect Kurdish leaders have aspirations to break away from the central government completely. The move could also be seen by some as a prelude to Iran taking a more direct role in broader Iraqi conflict.

"We asked for weapons and Iran was the first country to provide us with weapons and ammunition," Barzani said.

and good for the Kurds they need all the light weaponry and ammunition they can get.

light ammunition ? i doubt so , if you've followed the news carefully , the past few days , they were saying that Kurds need something better than their AKs and soviet era tanks , so right now what iran is supplying them is their improvements on G-3 , not light ammunition , american m-16 , and ahmedinajadi era sniper rifles , similar to the equipment they send for Hamas.

what ever your government is supplying the Kurds surely isn't anything the Jews don't have already

The Jews have Galil , Tavor , Uzi , etc. , the quality of which only satisfies , columbia , india or latvia ; not that i'm saying iran posesses better arms , but still like i said in my previous post , the israelis might wanna order kurds to hand them some of the iranian rifles , no doubt

Iran is simply flirting with the united states in iraq , if you can't see that big picture , then i feel sorry for you , Kurds have been victimized by the western media , along with christians , and so iran might wanna send them arms to please the west.

Since iran is not going to send tanks , artilleries or howitzers there , and since they not gonna reveal their russian originated anti-tank system , they are probably gonna send the reverse engineered israeli SPIKE ,
