After Russia - under Western pressures - backtracked on its official contract to sell S-300 missiles, Tehran began its own program of manufacturing mid and long-range surface to air missiles. The oil-rich Middle Eastern nation is today one the worlds most prolific manufacturers of missiles.
The country has plans to send its second satellite into orbit next month using domestically built long-range transporter. Tehran sent its first locally designed Omid satellite into orbit about two years ago.
