Iran's Air Defense Units Exercise Confronting Low-Altitude Aerial Threats

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iran's air defense force assessed the preparedness and performance of its air defense artillery and mid-range missile systems against low-altitude aerial threats during the military drills along the country's coastal waters in the Persian Gulf.

The drills were staged by the air defense units of the Iranian Army and the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) on the second day of the 'Sarallah' wargames underway in Iran's Southern regions.

In the current phase of the drills, hypothetical enemy aircraft and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) intruded into the airspace of the wargames' general zone in low altitude but were detected, identified and confronted by Iran's integrated air defense network's electronic systems.

The performance of 35mm Orlican air defense artillery systems, Skyguard and Rapier air defense systems which are now equipped with electro optic and laser telemeters was assessed in the drills.

Iran has recently renewed and upgraded the weapons and defense systems of its air defense units. Late in September, Iran equipped its air defense units across the country with large numbers of the home-made Mersad Air Defense Missile System.

In November and during the massive air defense exercises in Iran, the power, capability, weapons and military systems of the Rapid Reaction units of Iran's Air Defense Force were tested.

The Iranian Air Defense Force's rapid reaction units used their state-of-the-art, home-made weapons and systems, including multi-frequency radar equipment, anti-aircraft canons and different types of air defense missiles to force hypothetical enemy aircraft out of the country's air space.

Later in the drills, the rapid reaction units tested their ability against the hypothetical enemies' surprised night raids and blitzkrieg with full radio silence.

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian Army and Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) reviewed their latest air defense tactics during the current phase of the drills underway in the Southern province of Bushehr, Commander of Khatom ol-Anbia Air Defense Base Brigadier General Farzad Esmayeeli announced on Wednesday.

Iranian Forces Exercise Targeting UAVs in Air Defense Drills

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iran's air defense units exercised their capability of targetting Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) during massive air defense drills in the Southern province of Bushehr.

Iranian forces shot down a hypothetical enemy's drone on the final day of Sarallah military drills.

Iran's Air Defense Unit started massive air defense drills, codenamed Sarallah, in the country's Southern regions on Monday to test and assess the latest versions and productions of home-made radar and missile defense systems.

The air defense units of Iran's Army deployed various systems on Thursday to counter low-altitude aerial threats and successfully identified and destroyed the mock enemy's UAVs and radar-evading aircraft at an altitude of around 10,000 feet (about 3 kilometers).

Commander of Khatom ol-Anbia Air Defense Base Brigadier General Farzad Esmayeeli announced on Wednesday that Iranian Army and Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) reviewed their latest air defense tactics during the drills.

On the first day of the exercises, the air defense units of the Iranian Armed Forces under the command of Khatam ol-Anbia base managed to detect and identify invading aircraft and started confrontation with enemy warplanes using air defense systems and Scramble and CAP air defense planes.

During the second day of the drills, Iran's air defense force assessed the preparedness and performance of its air defense artillery and mid-range missile systems against low-altitude aerial threats.

The drills were staged by the air defense units of the Iranian Army and the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC).

Iran's air defense units assessed the performance and capabilities of different types of mobile and fixed radar systems on the third day of Sarallah military drills in Southern Iran.

During the current phase of the air defense wargames, different fixed and mobile radar systems which have been manufactured and upgraded by Iranian experts and are under the control of Iran's integrated air defense network were used.

Kasta and NEBO radars as well as the Iran-made Kashef (Discoverer) and Matla ol-Fajr radars were used to detect and identify aerial threats.

Iran's home-made air defense radar systems can easily detect cruise missiles and drones.

i am sure USA will send the Stealth fighter to IRAN first to disable the SAM system
you saw what happened in IRAQ so Iran must make something also for the Stealth

Good for Iran every nation has a right to defends it's self incase evil is upon them...

Why Libya unable to do anything to US fighters ? They had also SAM systems . But they can't even a shoot to the trail of a US fighter . What superiority have Iran's Air defense System over Libya & Iraq ? Expecting a technical answer from any one .

Gaddafi wasnt even fighting against NATO planes, it seems he hoped if Libya can outlast bombings and just fight the "rebels", NATO will go away same as it happened in 1986. If he would have started shooting down fighters and sinking warships, full NATO ground forces would have invaded. There were reported just a few missiles shooting at planes, later huge stockpile of AA missiles were found (5000+), which were never used.

The rest is history, it showed Gaddafi was naive enough to believe in West promises, naive to believe NATO and its alies wont use ground forces if he wont fight them directly, etc. At least he had guts to fight for his country till the death, instead of running away, as it was announced so many times by the West and Arabs media.

Difference is twofold - Iran's air defense is much more extensive/better, and they would actually use it, unlike Libya. Iraq was exhausted after the war with Iran, and then was extensively bombed by US for a over decade after Kuwait.

Partial list of Iran's air defense:
Islamic Republic of Iran Air Defense Force - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Notables: stealth detecting radars (Nebo, Matla'ol Fajr, etc), Bavar 373 (suppose to be S300 level), advanced electronic warfare (can jam and disorient missiles, UAVs (RQ-170 story), etc), smart missiles and ammunition.

One of the key features by Iranian air defense is extreme mobility. First thing US and its alies do is to bomb radars and SAM sites, but its very hard to do against Iran, since its defense is dispersed, can be moved and activated anywhere. Some of the radars are passive and not detectable.

I thought Iranian air defence tactics were to dig deeper and deeper bunkers?
