Iran shows film of captured US drone

Google this up yourself, or go read an aerospace textbook if you don't believe me. A flying wingbody aircraft has negative static stability. It requires a built in stability augmentation system, especially if you're flying it by remote operation. As for self-landing drones, I have friends who have designed landing algorithms for UAVs (granted, these are college competition UAVs, not 6 million dollar super stealth UAVs).

Anyways, you still haven't answered what you think happened to the drone. Are you claiming that God landed it?

At this moment my guess is it was either God landing it or the operator lost control and hence landed it instead of crashing it thinking it would recovered as it was said to have landed near the border. Most times the truth is simple human error.

.
So what happened then ? Why is it in one piece now ? :azn:
Iran has achieved a milestone ...

Believe it or continue denial mode ...

Planes do crash land almost perfectly- not a new phenomenon-
Ask the Iranians to show the underbelly- That may hold the key-

You mean there was a mechanical failure which prevented further flight but the operator crash-landed it? Then if they still had contact with the drone why didn't they self-destruct it? What were they doing such a short distance across the border (note that Iran claims to have captured it a hundred miles from the border)?

Presently there is no information of such capabilities on the UAV's for landing and taking off routinely without an operator. Your article itself admits such a system is for emergency. If this is the scenario, than my theory that it takes training to land a UAV stands vindicated as the theory initially put forward is that the Iranians took over control and landed it.

The most likely scenario is that the CIA lost control of it and landed it secretly so that it could be retrieved or the Iranians jammed it and the UAV went into emergency mode and landed itself. Both these scenarios are very far from an Iranian Operator landing it. Yes I can agree its a real gift horse for Iran.

What exactly are we arguing about then?

Most of the articles I'm seeing say the aircraft has a self-destruct capability.

Most articles don't know crap cause they don't own the uav. Think about all the uavs crashed in Pakistan, Iraq, Afghanistan and others. Ever seen a self destruct on any of them?

The Iranians did not land it. Atleast that was my discussions with Abbi.

JonAsad was saying that the video is fake because the Iranians couldn't have landed it. We were pointing out that the UAV must have landed itself.

I never debate with JA as he lives in his own world. I was just pointing out to Abbi that UAV's normally land and take off with an operator in control of a joystick and to master that takes a lot of training.

wow, can some mods take care of these trolls ? the pentagon and the iranian government say it is in iranian hands. an idiot would now deny it (for their own propaganda)

A Pentagon spokesperson said that military personnel and others were examining the footage broadcast today of what appeared to be an undamaged stealth RQ-170 Sentinel, multiple U.S. officials said that based on inconsistencies with the design of the drone, along with clues from imagery of the actual drone's crash site, they're "leaning towards" believing drone shown was not the Sentinel. U.S. officials previously confirmed that an RQ-170 did, in fact, crash land somewhere in Iran.

I have doubts now:

TEHRAN (FNA)- Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Aerospace Forces Brigadier General Amir Ali Hajizadeh Thursday evening appeared in a TV report to explain how Iranian forces downed the United States' highly advanced radar-evading spy drone last week.

"Recently, our collected intelligence and precise electronic monitoring revealed that this aircraft intended to infiltrate our country's airspace for spying missions," the General said, and added, "After it entered the Eastern parts of the country, this aircraft fell into the trap of our armed forces and was downed in Iran with minimum damage."

"The wing-to-wing width of the RQ-170 Sentinel drone is around 26 meters with a length of 4.5 meters and height of 1.84 meters."

Fars News Agency :: IRGC Commander Explains Downing of US Stealth Drone

Thing they showed on TV is nowhere close to 26 m, but about 8 m.

I think we should send some Chinese engineers over just to confirm if its the real thing.
Just to be certain:D
