The UN can't do anything. He's gotten good diplomatic support but it doesn't change much. May make Israel nervous a little and only possibility for it to work is in the long run.

As for Alawite Turks helping Iran? well, I can only go by the two Turkish friends of the family who are Alawite - there's not a chance in hell they have any loyalty to Iran. It wouldn't even cross their mind to support Iran over Turkey. So I think that's wishful thinking on Iran's part.

Strange times. When Nasser was mouthing off about destroying Israel and the whole pan-Arabism thing kicked off, Israel and Iran became allies against pan-Arabism.

Now it's possible Israel and Gulf states might have to 'cooperate' on the sly to halt Iran's march.

We have all sat back and watched Iran take Lebanon and grab onto Syria. They're fiddling in Iraq and Bahrain too. Lots of fingers in lots of pies.
