TEHRAN, April 14 (MNA) If the West fulfills our needs for 20 percent enrichment Iran is ready to review its decision to purify nuclear fuel to such a degree, senior lawmaker Parviz Sorouri said on Saturday.
Iran is enriching uranium to 20 percent to operate its research reactor which produces radioisotopes for cancer patients.
The remarks by Sorouri came just before negotiators from Iran and the 5+1 group (the five permanent members of the UN Security Council and Germany) met officially for nuclear talks in Istanbul on Saturday.
Hopes are rising over the result of the talks as the West seems willing to accept that Iran be allowed to enrich uranium to a level of 3.5 percent, a degree that is needed to operate nuclear reactors.
Our analysis shows that the West is showing signals that it is backing down on different issues and these are the positive points that we are seeing, Sorouri, a member of the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, told the Mehr News Agency.
He also said that an insistence on 3.5 percent enrichment by Iran without considering Irans needs to 20 percent enrichment will not be helpful.
Sorouri added, We believe that a win-win approach can create a situation for the 5+1 to get out of the current dilemma and (we want them to) do something that both meets the interests of the Islamic Republic of Iran and also allays Wests concerns.
