Seen a CGI of a potential stealthy Jf-17:

Looks nice. I think the Jf-17 platform has potential. Be great to see a stealthy version of it. This could be a project I would love to see Iran-Pakistan-China jointly develop.
There are others CGI that are more pretty but the JF-17 was developed as a replacement for our Mirages, F-7s and Fantans and it has turned out to be a very decent replacement. Iran has almost the same aircrafts to replace.

A fifth generation aircraft would be a totally new project. Any possibility of Iran joining TFX?

Iran is one of most natural partners for Pakistan, just think;
Language similarities.
Cultural similarities.
Shared border.
Intertwined history going back to over 5,000 years.
The largest Shia population outside Iran.
Iran and Pakistan's excellent ties, since the modern states started and so on.

Pakistan should jump head first and seek Iranian help and assistance in the SLV field and other advanced engineering projects. Pakistan should bring its nuclear know how to Iran, heck both can leap frog in this field together. Pakistan's armour experts should work with Iran on new series of combat vehicles.
Joint exercises should be held several times a year on the large border we share.

Pakistan/Iran zindabad.

Does anyone remember when US-made M-48 tanks were sent to Iran by Pakistan for overhaul/upgrades in Iranian factories? Why were the tanks held up/not returned to Pakistan? I remember reading about it in some book back in the 80s.

It all comes down to what USA and Saudis want, they hold a large leverage over Pakistan's ruling elite whether civil or military.

Most Pakistanis do not speak/understand Farsi. Many Iranians I met (in GCC) are fluent in Urdu though.

Second, religion should not form the basis for any partnership, in my ill-informed view. Our history is soaked red with Sunni-Shia rivalry. Geographic, cultural and technological sectors can form a much more reliable and long-lasting partnership between Pakistan and Iran.

More Pakistanis should try bro. Farsi is very easy for us to learn. The Sunni/Shia rubbish was introduced into Pakistan. The founding fathers, the people several decades after had no such interest.

Well it's high time for Pakistan to crave its own destiny.

I thought I make this thread because I could not find another one like it.

I am not sure how to start off but I think Iran-Pakistan, as two neighbours, whom have good relations and in general Iranians and Pakistanis have brotherly relations, even in real life (I can testify to this on a personal level), why do you think there has been a lack of cooperation in the defence field?

Do you think the sanctions against Iran were a major reason, or do you think there is politics involved?

Pakistan is obviously an advanced nation in the military field and has good experience in variety of fields, such as in fighter jets, cruise missiles, armoured machines etc and Iran is quire advanced in the air-defence sector, submarine, missiles etc. There is no questions both countries can learn from each other and unfortunately, there is currently a void that could have been filled with Pakistan-Iran joint projects, but sadly there is nothing right now. Many nations undergo joint development in the military, why not Iran-Pakistan?

Don't you think Iran-Pakistan joint projects could also seriously improve our relations and our views on each other?

Which projects would you like to see Iran-Pakistan jointly develop?

The number one for me would be fighter jets obviously. What are your thoughts?

Sorry if I forgot to mention anyone specifically. Anyway, lets keep this thread clean and full of good discussions

People of Pakistan love Iran; and support its efforts in Palestine. Iran is looked upon as an equal; both Islamic states. However; for some reason, the government isnt really getting involved with our relations. Iran is very respected for its bold statements about Israel and America, in Pakistan.

Not much "sunni shia rivalry". Only attacks against Shias are committed by TTP and other banned terrorist organizations.

Pakistan is a country with large sunni and shia population it should play a role in bring Arabs and Iranians closer to each other

.
Yes and both countries should begin with developing ships and submarines.Aircraft are too complex and require lot of funds

Of course there is so much potential in joint projects. Increasingly the cost of development and research costs are so high in defence industries and generally that with the exception of superpowers it makes sense for group of countries to come togather. Europe is example of this. Take Airbus. Engines are made in UK, wings in Italy, tail fin in Spain, electronics in Germany fuselage and assembly in France.

The problem though is you need unity and shared geopolitical platform. Pakistan without a doubt is the greatest repository of Persian influence outside of the Iranic world. As we know this goes back to Achaemenid times.

However Pakistan is flying in the wake of US/Saudi combine and Iran after 1979 has had revolutionery government bitterly opposed to USA and Saudia. Pakistan whilst doing everything to avoid getting caught up in this rivarly has unfortunately lost that deep understanding it had with Tehran before mid 1970s. This divergence needs resolving.

So until Iran calms down with the revoluntionary spirit and Pakistan let's go of the Saudi tail we are going to have to wait. There is even more potential in other industries. I give you one example. Automobiles. The Pakistani car market is too small however can you imagine if Iran/Pak set up a joint stock company that made car for both market.

Half of the car could be made in Pakistan the other half in Iran. The finished product could be sold in both countries thus getting the neccessry volumes. This would also allow exports into Central Asia and even Middle East.

However my dear friends the sad reality is we are divided mostly because of the outside world and some because of our stupidity. I live in Europe and you guy's have no idea how it annoys me so see these Irish, British, French, Germans, Danes, Belgians, Norweigians, Swedes, Italians, Romanian's, Hungarians, Polish, Austrian's and even the American/Canadians working togather.

Then I look at us. Some of us can't even look above our tribe, some above our bradtheri, some over our sects, some over our nations. Then West comes along and plays like pawns with us.

The West even choses the labels for us. Near East? I mean what does that mean? Near to who? The West? Middle East? Middle to who exactly?

However my feeling is Pakistan is moving into new terrain. For the first time it is slowly leaving the US ambit as it moves more closer to China. It's traitional place in South Asia is increasingly being filled by India. This change offers chance for new horizons. I also think as time moves forward the Iranian government will become more pragmatic then revolutionary.

So there is lots to hope for. We of course can help in this change by demonstrating that we are neighbours and share a common civilization. The future looks promising as long as we have vision and don't get stuck in our parochial vices.

That is why I will ask Pakistani's to start stretch their hand of friendship to Iran and vice versa. Don't let the West divide us.

And yes I would love a Iran - Pakistan - China axis

My dear Iranian brother ....I am so happy that you posted this thread . Being a Pakistani and neighbor to Iran I always feel grateful for brotherhood and good relations Iranians have shown to us since our existence. This is exactly the reason why our military decided NOT to support Saudi Arabian led Coalition in Yemen or do anything against Syria . I am sure in future also Pakistan will never allow its land to be used against Iran . We , however , should be aware of conspiracy of evil axis of non Muslims to divide Muslims countries against each other and make sure we destroy each other through fighting each other . One should not be blind to our main non Muslim enemies and I specifically like to point out joint axis of USA and NATO in combination to Israel and India which have all ONE joint goal.....................to destroy Muslims !

Having said all above I like to say that as a Pakistani I do wish that my country should enter into strategic relationship with Iran and we can enter into joint defense programs and also enter into mutual defense pact. I , however, I am sad to see Iran allowing India , which is open and known arch enemy of Pakistan to develop its Chahbahar port, so close to our strategic port Gwadar . I am sure India's main purpose to lay its feet in Chahbahar so close to Pakistan is not about shipping or trade but to use its agents to disturb Pakistan . India has used Afghanistan for same purpose and its 23 consulates are operating near Pakistan border and using these consulates to breed and brainwash TTP takfiri terrorists and launch them in Pakistan. Trust me they will use Chahbahar also against Pakistan . As long as India is given so free hand in Iran so close to strategic region of Pakistan then it will be very difficult for Pakistan to enter into any mutual defense pact or mutual defense manufacturing projects .

I am surprised why Iranians have given so much access to Indians whereas Indians secretly conspired with Americans and Israelis against Iranian nuclear program. I am sure your intelligence must be aware of it .

I, however, like to assure you and all Iranian brothers that if Iran restrict India and make sure that our security interests are safeguarded then Pakistanis will be happy to do anything for you .

In the end I wish that all Muslim countries including Iran Pakistan Afghanistan Turkey and even Arab countries like Saudi Arabia UAE Qatar Egypt etc. can solve our differences and respect each other and work for unity because unity is only way we can defeat our enemies .

All Muslims , whether Shia Sunni or Wahabi and belonging to any country should unite and forget our differences . We are not enemies of each other . Our real enemies are evil forces of Crusaders , Zionists, or Hindu hegemonists . Today they have joined together to destroy us but together we can defeat them.

The main cause of distance between Pak and Iran is sectarian problems. Yes they were statrted in Pak but by help of facilitators. We should not enter in blame game further Iran much deeper relations with India than Pak another reason for concern for Pak.
Sincere efforts should be made by both sides for rehabilitation of contacts first. This can only be done by dialogue and social relations. That can only be achieved if and when Pak Sunnis feel secure while traveling to Iran and indulging in economic activities there. Further Iran Govt should facilitate Sunnis also in Iran like Shia population of Pak.

Economically Iran is in much better state than Pak further they have achievements in aeronautics/Radars and Air defense field in which Pak may get benefits from their exp. On the other hand Iran may get help from Pak in the fields of Missiles, MBTs and even in case of frigates/submarines.
