Despite huge oil reserves Iran is not in a position to finance a deal of this magnitude, we're talking about $12 billion! Imho they'll go for smaller numbers upto 100 Su-30.

Btw, if the Russians can sell to Venezuela they can sell to Iran.

12 billion or 6 billion dollars worth of order.hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm if Russia were to say no cause to make uncle happt .uncle will literally have to compensate Putin for that to happen other wise.if its true its a done deal.

Russia and China knows the long term repcurssions of the Iranian Bomb for their control of middle east and energy security. Exactly the reason they voted against them in the UN.

Its a 50 million dollar plane without armaments. You are talking about nearly 15-18 billion deal. with interest, time and armaments added on. Iran has no money of that kind

If true, IMO its an utter waste of money and resources. If Iran is preparing for a showdown with the US, they should be preparing to accelerate their nuke programme, and invest heavily in their BMs. The US will gain absolute air-dominance, whether they have those SU-30 or not. The amount of resources spent on acquiring, training pilots for, maintaining those SU-30 will go down the drain in case of a conflict with the US. Even Indian AF will be wiped out in a conventional conflict with the Americans, what to speak of the Iranian AF.

Iran should be strengthning its non-conventional assets, massing mobile missile launchers, both AD and BM, and hoping like crazy they can test a nuke before the shooting begins.

Ofcourse, in any other scenario, where they have to go up against any of their regional rivals, the SU-30s will be very useful.

Iam not much with numbers but if the country produces 4million brls oil/day and sells it to Europeans at $76.00/brl.every day only accepts money in euros for some stupid reason i would think they can come up with the money.
1)question is can Russians afford to say no?
2)would Russians say no or play games when they are trying to become major player in arms.if they play games who will trust them.
3)if India decides to go American way with there fighter jet purchase.can the American convince Russia not to sell.while taking a big bite out of Russian arms exports.so far Putin's is playing a hell of a good businessman and making money for Russia right left and center from kicking out major oil companies to signing new deals with Europe for Russian gas.

I think most airforces in the world would be wiped out in the event of a war with America. However the key is to make America pause and think about cost vs benefit.

But a while back I hunted down Iran's budget and it was pretty stretched. Buying 250 aircraft would be a massive expense. Where would they get the money from?????
