I don't know where such economic sanctions have worked but the Americans are hardly the sharpest tool in the tool box. But then I suppose this is what happens when Israel runs your foreign policy

Sanction are hurting Iran because it does not have access to global finance. Apart from selling oil at cheap rate, it cant do much.
