I think the Shah of Iran suffered from an INFERIORITY COMPLEX. He had to prove that Iranians were like Europeans in appearance ( but not in substance ). The emphasis was not on achieving the European standards of education and science and technology. The emphasis was only on following european culture and dresses. Shah use to rant about how iranians were an ARYAN race and added ARYA MEHR ( the light of Aryans ) to his name.

It is not important for muslims to look like or dress like Europeans but to excel in science and technology and beat them in that field of endeavour. Leaders like shah are fake people and do nothing for our nations.

Well, Shah was a strange man. He wanted to prove that Iranians are western but he never took science and technology seriously. All he was doing for most part was for show off. New York a western city had its first metro line functional in 1901, but by 1979, Iran still did not have a metro system for Tehran. Even Cairo was ahead of Iran in these regards. Similar is the case with other areas. Pakistan was miles ahead of Iran in nuclear technology having had its first nuclear power plant built in late 1960's. And India had already launched a satellite into space by 1979 and Iran at the time had not even a space agency. Anyways since that time Iran has come a long way and today Iran is among the world's top movers in almost all areas education, health, income and human development index as per United Nations.

These are some of the videos from Shah's time, and the westernization can be seen in it but it is only the sexual freedom part of west without science and technology:

Plans for the Future for Iran in 1970s

Imperial Medical Center of Iran
Imperial_Medical_Centre.jpg

A comprehensive center incorporating patient care, health sciences education, and research, IMCI is designed to overcome the nation’s dependence on important biomedical technology. It will serve not only the people of Iran, but a larger geographic area extending beyond the frontiers of the country as well. It’s educational components include graduate and undergraduate schools of medicine, nursing, dentistry, allied health sciences, health planning and management and an institute of continuing health sciences education. There is also a center for basic biomedical and clinical research with laboratory facilities, a 600-bed hospital, out patient and ancillary facilities. The comprehensive Biomedical Information Center housing the Pahlavi Medical Library will include direct computerized participation in the international Medical Literature analysis and Retrieval System, allowing a constant exchange with the world scientific community. Architecturally, IMCI is a contemporary response to the heritage of Iran, re-interpreting the traditional elements of space, water, light, gardens, vaulted ceilings and faceted mirror surfaces to create a complex at once functional and distinctive.

Hotel Tehran
Hotel_Tehran.jpg

The thirty-story, 700 rooms Hotel Tehran, to be housed in a triangular tower at the south-east corner of Farah park in downtown Tehran, presents itself as a pure glass prism of strictly geometric form. The reflective structure is oriented to take maximum advantage of views of the Alborz mountains on the north, to integrated with the tree-field park on the west, and to open up the intersection visually. The 7.5-meter-tall lobby sheathed in transparent glass affords unobstructed views of parks, sky and mountains while banquet and conference facilities are located underground. The triangular form and reflective façade of the hotel together are intended to soften the impact of such a massive corner structure and enable it to harmonize with the park and surrounding environment. A Japanese style garden with water fall on the north is another deliberate attempt to unify the hotel landscape with Farah park and to create an atmosphere that suggests an oasis.

Industrial Credit Bank
Industrial_Credit_Bank.jpg

The new headquarters for the Industrial Credit Bank will be situated in downtown Tehran creating, with the nearby Rudaki Opera House, a sophisticated urban space at a focal point in the north-south street system. The 27 story office tower uses the traditional Iranian notched-square motive to provide maximum natural light for each floor and translates this into a sophisticated structural system. The lower office/commercial structure, with sky-lit interior winter garden, wraps protectively around 2 sides of the 7,000 sq. meter site and transforms the intermediate plaza into a modern version of a traditional walled courtyard. This plaza, from which both buildings gain entrance, is further enhanced by a water tower fountain and a small grove of trees. The facades of glass and aluminium recall traditional Iranian motives while the reflective exterior acts to minimize the mass of the buildings. A restaurant and a café opening on the plaza, a lower level concourse of shops and the subterranean parking will serve patrons of the Rudaki Opera House as well as the project itself, bringing activity to the area both day and night.
